Chapter 41
Conrad’s expression was equally grim, his eyes darkening with intensity. “You are the sole heir of the Melendez family. Every decision you make carries weight for the family’s legacy. If she insists on working, then let her take a position within Melendez Group. If she refuses, then she should have a child soon and stay home to raise it. The Melendez family does not tolerate those who contribute nothing!”
Jayceon’s jaw clenched tightly, his voice sharp and resolute. “Whether she works or whether we have children—that’s between her and me. It’s none of your concern!”
Conrad opened his mouth to argue, but Chester raised a hand, silencing him immediately. Slowly rising from his chair with Oliver rushing to support him, Chester moved around the desk and stood firmly before Jayceon. His voice was cold, unwavering, and filled with a chilling resolve. “Six years ago, I had the power to make Georgina vanish from your life. And six years later, I still hold the means to erase her and her son from this world forever.”
Jayceon’s breath caught in his throat, his voice trembling with a warning edge. “Grandpa, don’t push me to the brink.”
Chester’s tone dropped even lower, dripping with menace. “You are the heir to the Melendez name. I will never allow a woman and a child of uncertain origin to bring ruin upon you or the Melendez Group.”
Jayceon’s voice remained steady, unwavering despite the threat. “That child is mine.”
The weight of those words lingered heavily in the room, and the study fell into a suffocating silence.
Conrad stepped forward abruptly and struck Jayceon hard across the face. “You bastard! What the hell are you trying to prove?”
Jayceon staggered back, gingerly touching the bleeding corner of his lip. “Dad, didn’t you have an illegitimate child once too? Why are you overreacting now?”
Conrad raised his hand again, ready to strike, but Chester intervened. “Since you claim the child is yours, then go and get a paternity test. I want to see the proof.”
Jayceon’s voice hardened with determination. “Grandpa, I know you could make Gina and Leo disappear without a trace with just a flick of your finger. But from now on, if anything happens to them, I will bring down the entire Melendez family and the Melendez Group.”
A fierce gleam sparked in Chester’s eyes. “Prove the child is truly yours, and I will leave them alone.”
Jayceon’s rigid stance softened just a little. “I’ll send the paternity test results as soon as I have them.”
With that, he turned sharply and headed toward the door.
But when Jayceon grasped the handle and pulled it open, he froze in place. There, standing just outside, was Arabella. Her face was pale as if drained of all color, and her body trembled visibly.
Their eyes locked.
Tears of despair streamed down Arabella’s cheeks, raw and unrestrained.
Jayceon’s heart tightened painfully.
Chester looked down at her with a cold, scrutinizing gaze. “You really want to divorce Jayceon?”
Arabella lifted a trembling hand, as if swearing an oath. “Chester, I swear. After the divorce, I won’t say a single bad word about the Melendez family. If you want, I’ll hold a press conference and admit I cheated—that the divorce is entirely my fault.”
She added softly, “And don’t worry, I won’t take a penny from Jayceon. I’ll leave with nothing.”
“Arabella!” Jayceon exclaimed, pulling her up once again.
He gripped her shoulders, his eyes burning with urgent intensity. “Do you even understand what you’re saying?”
Arabella nodded fervently, her chin trembling uncontrollably as she clutched the collar of Jayceon’s shirt.
“Jay,” she whispered, “come with me and beg Chester. If we get divorced, you three can be a family openly. No more hiding.”
Her voice cracked, tears spilling as she pleaded, “I promise. After the divorce, I’ll stay away. I won’t disturb your lives anymore.”
Jayceon remained silent for a moment, then stepped forward, pulling her tightly into his arms. “Arabella, please don’t do this.”
