Ms. Escape Marrying to Run Fighting to Rise novel Chapter 397

Chapter 397 Steam and Shadows

Adriana’s first instinct was joy. But then, as she remembered something, she hurried to switch off the living room light. She ran across the dark room and threw herself into Curtis’s arms.

Curtis let out a smug little snort. He wasn’t even trying to hide his jealousy.

“Silas brought you home?” he muttered. “I could tell just by looking at him that he’s up to no good.”

Adriana tried to explain. “We knew each other a long time ago. He was at the orphanage, too, for about a year. Then someone took him in, and I got adopted into Govendale.”

Curtis’s expression tightened. That made things worse, not better. Childhood ties. Silas had met her before Curtis ever did.

“He probably won’t hurt me,” Adriana said, trying to calm him down. “But he wouldn’t tell me who Mister is, and he wants an alliance through marriage. That part feels like Mister’s idea.”

Even in the dim light, she could see the jealousy in his eyes. She pulled him toward the bedroom, smiling and softening her voice. “Honey, everyone thinks I’m bad luck for husbands now. That makes it kind of hard to get married.”

Curtis scooped her up with a touch of jealousy and carried her toward the bathroom.

“You still want to get married?” he asked, pressing her back against the wall. Jealousy was evident in the way he kissed her.

Adriana laughed and calmed him down. “I’m telling you so you’ll stop worrying.”

He lingered close, but his voice shifted to a quieter tone. “When are we bringing the babies over?”

He missed her. He missed them.

Adriana shook her head. “They’re safer in Harborton. Yolanda is there, and I can relax a bit. The main battlefield is in Haldoria right now.”

Curtis nodded. “Lucas is solid. He’s older now, but he’s still strong and sharp. With him there, they’ll be safe.”

Curtis pulled Lucas Harrington back to the Bartons as their butler because he didn’t trust anyone, and he handed the café off to someone else. Lucas had raised Curtis and had gone back with him to Govendale

years ago.

He was one of the people Curtis trusted most.

Chapter 397 1

Adriana bit him, not hard, but hard enough to make her point. The bathroom quickly grew warm. The air thickened with steam, and the space between them started to feel smaller.
