Chapter 941: Chapter 939 Gaining Authority

More importantly, it would further solidify her authority, as people naturally placed greater value on her when she had more to offer.

Although she was already highly regarded, having additional resources would attract even more exceptional individuals to join her most trusted squad. Moreover, since she had already awakened her own ability, the Awakening Fruit would go to waste in her inventory, so rather than let it sit unused, she chose to put it to meaningful use.

Aston stared at the unfamiliar fruit in his hand, confused at first. But he had a hunch about where it came from, one that was confirmed a moment later when a series of messages popped up before him.

[Kisha: I sent you an Awakening Fruit. When you have time, go into seclusion and prepare yourself for awakening. You’ve been taking the Scarlet Honey for quite a while now, so your body should already be ready.]

[Kisha: Using this fruit is much safer than waiting for a natural awakening. This way, there’s no risk of you turning into a zombie.]

[Aston: There’s actually something this amazing?!!!]

[Aston: City Lord, are you sure you want to give me such a treasure?!]

[Aston: ...Well, since you’ve already given it to me, I won’t give it back!]

[Aston: (。•̀ᴗ-)✧]

[Kisha: My husband, my family, and I have all awakened our abilities already, so it would be a waste for me to keep it. It’s better if you use it and grow stronger. That way, even when I leave the base, you’ll have the strength to protect it yourself.]

[Aston: Thank you so much, City Lord. Please leave everything to me, I’ll protect the base with everything I have. You can go and do what you need to without worrying about us.]

[Aston: (p〒д〒q)]

...

Seeing Aston’s reply, Kisha couldn’t help but smirk in amusement, her heart warming with satisfaction. She was genuinely happy; after all, she couldn’t stay in the base forever, guarding it against every threat.

There would be more missions waiting for her outside, just like this one involving the subjugation of a mutated zombie.

If she wanted to live safely and freely in this world, she had to take the initiative, to hunt down potential zombie kings before they grew stronger or complete whatever missions the system assigned her. Deep down, Kisha knew the system wouldn’t allow her to stay cooped up in the base now that things were running smoothly and stability was within reach.

Now that she had given one Awakening Fruit to Aston, she only needed to arrange the distribution of the remaining four.

"Are things alright outside?"

Duke suddenly emerged from the meeting room, followed closely by Sparrow, who looked just as worried as he did. It seemed Kisha had taken a little longer than expected outside, and Duke’s concern had finally gotten the better of him, prompting him to come out and check on her. Naturally, Sparrow followed right after, sharing his unease.

Just as they were about to return to the meeting room, the rich aroma of food caught their attention. Not far away, large woks and pots simmered over crackling firewood, filling the air with the comforting scent of stew.

Kisha’s grandmother was busy tasting the broth as chunks of beef, carrots, and potatoes bubbled together.

It seemed the people of the settlement had decided to use nearly all their remaining food supplies to prepare a feast for Kisha and her group. Seeing their generosity despite having so little made Kisha’s heart ache. She shook her head softly, then walked over and waved her hand.

In an instant, crates upon crates of fresh vegetables, meat, and seafood appeared out of thin air. The people around her froze, eyes wide, mouths agape. Some even had tears welling in their eyes at the sight of such abundance.

Kisha, however, felt a bit flustered. She didn’t want them to think she was showing off. She had simply felt guilty at the thought of eating their remaining food, especially after noticing how many children lived in this settlement.

Just as Kisha was about to say something, the people around her suddenly broke into cheers, their voices filled with joy and relief. But the excitement quickly faded into awkward silence as they turned to look at her with embarrassed expressions, guilt flickering in their eyes.

They had promised to treat Kisha and her group as a way of thanking them for saving the settlement, but now it felt as though the roles had been reversed, as if it was Kisha who was treating them. The realization made them feel unworthy, and that only deepened their unease.
