My 100th Rebirth a day before the Apocalypse novel Chapter 943

Capítulo 943: Chapter 941 Talk With Rakan

A small smile tugged at her lips when she noticed the notification appear before her eyes: her Devotion Points had increased once again. She now had a total of 500 points, ever since that mysterious Devotion stat had first appeared out of nowhere.

“All right, everyone may leave, except for Rakan. Please stay behind; there’s something I wish to discuss with you,” Kisha said, clasping her hands neatly behind her back as she waited for the others to move.

Sensing that Kisha had something important to talk about, the rest of the group left quietly after offering her a respectful bow. Their expressions were bright with gratitude; they were still elated from receiving her compensation.

Once outside, chatter quickly filled the air. They couldn’t help but talk excitedly about what they had been given. After all, materials capable of resisting elemental attacks were far from ordinary. With the weather growing more extreme, shifting from scorching heat to deadly cold, such items could mean the difference between life and death.

If not for themselves, they thought, these gifts could protect their families. Kisha had even given them the freedom to request modifications, so the materials could be crafted into something other than their uniforms if they wished to pass them on to loved ones.

In times like these, when ordinary people were the most vulnerable, such generosity was nothing short of invaluable.

While waiting for everyone to leave the room and for Rakan to settle, Kisha decided to check how many she still had in stock. There were six of them, and she had promised to give each of them two items.

She couldn’t just make a promise and fail to deliver; it would damage her credibility and make her look like someone who spoke well but couldn’t follow through. She needed to be certain she had the exact number in her inventory before proceeding.

When Kisha opened her inventory, she realized she only had five pieces of Bredmon Leather left. This time, however, she didn’t even flinch. She now had more than enough system points, and buying something from the system mall no longer made her hesitate. With that in mind, she called out to 008.

“008, please help me purchase one more Bredmon Leather from the system mall. I need one more.”

“No problem, Host. One Bredmon Leather costs 20,000 system points. Are you sure you want to proceed with the purchase?” 008 reminded her politely. Despite Kisha’s abundant points, the system still couldn’t use them without her authorization.

“Wait, what? Why is it so expensive?!”

Kisha thought she’d already gotten over the sting of spending system points, but when she heard that a single piece of Bredmon Leather cost 20,000, she nearly choked. Maybe it was because she’d been broke for so long that being a cheapskate had been engraved into her very bones.

Even with an abundance of points now, she couldn’t help but subconsciously feel that 20,000 was still too much, especially for just one piece of leather. She’d spent far more before, sure, but somehow, this felt different.

It was just leather, after all.

“Host, don’t forget that this kind of leather isn’t like some cabbage you can just buy because you have system points,” 008 said, slipping into its newly learned sales pitch voice. “Twenty thousand is already a steal! Do you have any idea how hard it is to hunt a Bredmon Beast? Not to mention, its leather is prime material for stealth boots or armor, you’re practically getting a bargain!”

It was obvious 008 was trying to convince her to just buy it, especially since it earned a small commission for every item sold from the system mall, points it used to upgrade its so-called “Sales Channel’s level.”

“Ha!” Kisha scoffed. She wanted to argue, but in the end, she gave up. With the absurd amount of system points she had now, even buying a mountain of Bredmon Leather wouldn’t make a dent in her balance.

Realizing that, she stopped being petty and sighed heavily. After all, 008 had helped her countless times, and if letting it sell more items could help it upgrade, then so be it.

“Alright, let’s buy it,” she finally said.

[Do you authorize the purchase of one (1) Bredmon Leather for 20,000 system points?]

[Yes] or [No]

Kisha didn’t hesitate this time. She tapped [Yes] without a second thought.

As soon as Kisha received the Bredmon Leather, she immediately contacted her mother-in-law and handed over the materials so they could be crafted into uniforms or other clothing according to the recipients’ preferences, after all, it was their reward.

After all, before joining HOPE Base, Rakan had once fought against Sparrow’s team and even tried to steal from them. A part of him still feared that Kisha might hold that incident against him and decide to teach him a lesson.

On top of that, he couldn’t help but feel insecure, because unlike Sparrow, Vulture, and the others, he and his subordinates were just ordinary humans. They couldn’t be considered a great asset to the base or to Kisha herself.

What truly worried him, however, was the thought that Kisha might see them as a burden, people who dragged the team down, and reassign them to a lesser position, like the city guard.

To a man like Rakan, who had once known what it felt like to lead, that would be a heavy blow. He yearned to continue commanding his small team, to stand tall like Sparrow and Vulture, and to bring home something to be proud of.

After all, every man wanted to be a hero, and he was no exception.

But he was also painfully aware of his limits. He was just a normal human, no match for those with awakened abilities. Without proof that he could stand on equal footing with them, he couldn’t demand more or take someone else’s place. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞

Doing so would only seem unfair, especially when everyone in the base was working hard to contribute their share.

Seeing Kisha sitting across from him with that assessing look in her eyes made Rakan feel as though he were sitting on pins and needles that would never stop pricking. He could only shift subtly in his seat, trying to maintain his composure while keeping his back straight like a ramrod.
