My Alpha Only Ever Said Fine. novel Chapter 21

Chapter 4

Before Wesley and I formally dissolved our mate bond, I truly did lose control.

I filmed them entangled together, printed stacks of flyers, stamped them with titles, dates,

and locations, and mailed every single one to every member of the pack.

Banners exposing their affair filled the streets outside his office building, more appearing

every day.

I reported Kayla for “behavior unbecoming of a she-wolf,” and the Werewolf Academy forum

exploded.

At her graduation ceremony, I hired someone to project our old videos, ones of the three of

us back when we were inseparable on a giant loop across the main screen.

Every precious memory I once held became ammunition I fired back at them.

But Wesley still shielded her with everything he had.

Kayla graduated smoothly from the top werewolf art academy in the country.

She was even preparing for her own exhibition.

Only when he saw I was ready to escalate again did he truly look at me-his voice cold, the way an Alpha reprimanded subordinates.

“Kayla’s dream is finally within reach. What happened between us is over. Stop trying to ruin

her.”

My eyes burned with rage. “Ruin? I’m ready. On the day of the exhibition, plenty of people will

be very interested.”

Wesley suddenly slammed a folder in front of me.

“Sign it.”

His voice cut through the room.

“If you don’t want your mother’s grave relocated, then stop.”

That grave’s purchase and registration, he had handled everything after my breakdown. One order from him and even my mother’s death wouldn’t be left in peace.

Disgust surged up from the pit of my stomach. I doubled over and vomited onto the gallery

floor.

It drew immediate attention. Kayla and Wesley, surrounded by admirers, turned toward me.

Kayla’s syrupy voice drifted over the crowd. “Miss, are you alright?”

I saw the heart-shaped brooch pinned to her chest, perfectly matching the key-shaped

cufflink on Wesley’s sleeve.

My mind snapped. I seized the brooch and slashed the canvas. The tearing echoed across

the hall.

People screamed. Guests scattered. Security ran over and pinned me to the ground.

The cold tile pressed against my cheek as I lifted my head and met Wesley’s eyes.

He held a trembling, sobbing Kayla in his arms. His gaze on me was the gaze one reserved

for filth.

“Call the police,” he said quietly.

I laughed. The more people stared, the louder I laughed. Within minutes, they all stepped

back like I was a madshe-wolf.

Because the damage exceeded ten thousand dollars, I was sentenced to three years in

prison and ordered to compensate the gallery for damages and emotional distress.

I attempted to end my life several times in prison, but each time they resuscitated me.

A year later, for good behavior, I was released early. I had nothing left. Yet somehow, I

understood more than ever.

When the car stopped at the restaurant, Kayla went to fix her makeup.

Wesley stood beside me, his voice steady. “I’m sorry.”

His eyes didn’t move from me.

“What happened back then was our fault. Next time, I’ll make sure Kayla keeps some distance.”

I lifted my head, startled.

The Wesley I knew would rather die than apologize. Now he was the first one to yield.

“I don’t need it,” I said quietly. “You’re married. I just thought of the past when I saw you two.”

A shadow crossed his eyes, something like sorrow. I didn’t understand it, and I didn’t want to.

Kayla returned with her carefree smile. “We used to love pooling our money for barbecue. Order whatever you want!”

Wesley frowned. “Lauren couldn’t handle spicy food back then. Don’t forget.”

“It’s fine,” I said. “I’m perfectly fine now.”

Years of strict diet and training had long restored my health.

My phone rang then. On the screen was a single word: Husband.

I answered.

Eric’s deep, clear voice held dramatic grievance. “Lauren, taking lan to that show was harder than working ten shifts. You’re going to say I look thinner when you get home.”

In the background, a small boy’s voice piped up. “Mom! Dad got hit on today by some lady! They talked for a really long time!”

“That was the host!” Eric exploded. “Quit talking nonsense!”

I couldn’t help laughing.

When I looked up, the mall’s giant screen was showing Eric’s interview. He stood tall and handsome, lan beside him with bright, excited eyes.

I snapped a picture and sent it.

By the time I lowered the phone, both Wesley and Kayla were frozen in place.

“Lauren…” Kayla choked.

Wesley’s voice tightened. “You’re married?”

I slipped my phone away and nodded.

Kayla leaned forward immediately. “Then who is he? Which small pack is he from? If things

are hard for you two financially, Wesley and I can-”

Before I could reject her offer, Wesley suddenly cut in, voice low and severe.

“That’s enough, Kayla. You’ve crossed the line all day.”

He turned to me, jaw tight, Alpha pressure pushing through the air.

“Lauren, if you truly have a husband, why are you living alone in that abandoned estate? I

checked earlier. There wasn’t even a pair of men’s slippers at your door.”

His perception was absurdly sharp.

“I don’t know who he is,” Wesley continued, pausing as if the words tasted bitter.

“But if he really is your mate…” His voice dropped to ice. “He’s not worthy.”

For a moment, I was stunned.

That old house was my mother’s place. Every year on this day, I returned to make a meal for

her.

Years ago when the area faced demolition, it was my Alpha husband who traded a high-value

piece of land to keep the house standing.

There weren’t shoes in the entryway, but the entire plot of land was bought for me.

Whether my husband was “worthy” wasn’t for Wesley to decide.

Kayla forced a smile. “Why are you so worked up? Shouldn’t you be happy for her? Maybe she

even has kids now.”

Wesley didn’t spare her a shred of dignity. “Kayla, if you want to start a scene, go home.”

Her face stiffened, but she didn’t dare make another sound.

Dinner felt like sitting on a needle bed for both of them. I, on the other hand, enjoyed every

bite.

When the meal ended, Wesley suddenly placed a gold card in front of me.

“There’s money inside. Take it. You don’t have to return anything. If it’s not enough, I’ll

transfer more regularly.”

I stared at the card, raising a brow. “Why give me money out of nowhere?”

“For what happened back then. I owe you.”

His tone was sincere, yet carried the force of an Alpha’s command, an expectation that I

would accept his compensation.

For a heartbeat, I simply felt… ridiculous.

Back then, he threw me out like a beggar. Now, with both of us married, he wanted to play

savior. Absurd.

I turned the card between my fingers and suddenly said:

“If you’re serious, ask you and your mother to apologize a hundred times at my mother’s

grave. Maybe then I’ll see even a sliver of sincerity.”

Wesley’s expression darkened instantly, a violent furrow cutting through his brow.

I hadn’t expected him to agree anyway. I tossed the card aside and stood to leave.

He grabbed my wrist sharply.

“Take the money.”

His palm was burning hot, Alpha dominance searing into my skin.

“It’s for your own good.”

I slowly but firmly pulled my hand away. “Wesley, you’re crossing a line.”

His eyes reddened, emotions churning wildly beneath the surface.

“Let me drive you.”

I shook my head. “No. My husband’s coming to get me.”

I paused, added politely:

“Thank you both for dinner. I ate very well.”

And I had watched enough of the show.

Wesley had never been impulsive, not once. He had never lost control for love.

Whatever he showed today wasn’t affection. It was simply his nature breaking through,

control, possession, charity disguised as care.

Kayla looked happy, but I knew better than anyone what kind of Alpha she had married.

I washed my hands in the restroom, then stepped onto the street to wait for my ride. Behind

me, from the alley, sudden shouting erupted.

“Why should I shut up?! How am I supposed to watch my Alpha care about another she-wolf?

Do you even care how I feel?!”

Kayla’s voice cracked with furious sobs.

“From the moment you saw her, you were no longer yourself. When she said she was

married, your fists clenched so hard your nails nearly bled-don’t pretend I didn’t see it!”

“That card was from your private account. Even your mother begged you and you refused.

But today, you handed it to her right in front of me! Wesley, what am I to you?!”

A sharp slap cracked through the alley.

I stopped walking. Wesley’s voice followed, low, brutal.

“You two were supposed to be like sisters. You stole the Frostfang Pack Luna position from

her and now enjoy everything it brought you. Seeing her like this, do you feel anything at all?”

His tone dropped even colder.

“If you can’t tolerate giving her a little money, then when she learned the whole truth back

then, how much did she have to endure?”

“There is no future between her and me. Can’t you let her go?”

Kayla’s sobs turned small and broken, fear and shame mingled.

I listened, and only felt bored.

Until a familiar black stretch limousine rolled up in front of me. The door hadn’t even opened before a small boy jumped out from the back seat, barreling into my arms.

“Mom!”

His tiny hands clung to me, his little nose pressed into the hollow of my neck, like a pup verifying a safe scent.

I wrapped my arms around him. For the first time today, the corners of my mouth lifted for

real.

“Mom, you saw lan on TV, right? lan was good?”

I tapped his nose with a smile. “Of course. Ian was the best.”

The next moment, a pair of large hands lifted my little pup straight out of my arms. The same

handsome face that had appeared on the mall’s giant screen now stood right in front of me.

Eric looked annoyed, but his movements were as gentle as ever.

“How old are you now? Still clinging to your mom? Do you know how heavy you are? If you

tire her out, I’ll deal with you myself.”

“Dad, liar!” lan huffed. “You always want Mom to hold you too! Shame on you!”

Watching the two of them bicker, I couldn’t stop smiling. I was about to step into the car

when a fractured voice sounded behind me.

“Lauren… who is this?”

I turned, calm. “This is my mate, Eric Chandler.”

For a heartbeat, Wesley froze like he’d been struck by lightning.

“The Alpha of the Ironclaw Pack? Everyone knows him. He only returned to the country this

year… How could you possibly be married to him?”

His gaze was sharp enough to cut, disbelief distorting every muscle in his face.

It made sense. Ironclaw Pack had always been fiercely private. Eric and I had married

overseas in a quiet ceremony, only close allies knew. It wasn’t strange Wesley didn’t.

Eric freed one hand and gently laced his fingers through mine, his fingertips hooking with

deliberate ease, an unmistakable Alpha’s territorial gesture.

“So you must be Alpha Wesley… and Luna Kayla?” Eric said pleasantly.

I thought that dinner would be the end of any contact with Wesley. But a week later, the nanny at Beverly Heights called in a panic.

“Luna… when I went to clean today, there were cigarette butts piled up at your door. The hallway smelled like smoke and liquor. I nearly fainted from it.”

“The house itself hasn’t been entered. But the old folks downstairs said they’ve heard strange noises for days… could it be a thief?”

My brows tightened.
