My Alpha Stepbrother's Dirty Secret (Killian Wolfe and Liana) novel Chapter 279

Chapter 7

Diana’s POV

Isaac was insane.

There was no other way to explain it. How could someone say something like that so easily? How could he say he was addicted?

Not to a drug.

Not to alcohol.

But to me?

I didn’t even remember how I left his office. I rushed out‚ my heart pounding hard in my chest. I barely felt the pain between my thighs anymore. Maybe the injection had numbed it.

Outside‚ I flagged down a taxi without thinking twice. I gave the driver my home address and leaned back against the seat. My hands were shaking the whole way.

When I finally got home‚ I didn’t expect what I saw.

Everyone was there.

My family stood in the living room‚ their faces filled with worry. The moment I stepped inside‚ my mom rushed toward me.

“Di!” she cried.

Mrs. Anna Wolfe pulled me into a tight hug. Her arms wrapped around me like she was afraid I would disappear again. Her face looked tired and scared. Behind her‚ my dad stood with his arms folded. His eyes were hard as he looked at me.

“We called your phone several times‚” he said. “Where have you been?”

I froze.

I pulled my phone out of my bag and looked at the screen. My heart dropped. There were more than thirty missed calls. From my mom. From my dad. From Dalia.

“I’m sorry‚” I said softly.

“We were so worried‚ honey‚” my mom said‚ her voice gentler now. “Where have you been?”

I swallowed.

“I… I went to the hospital.”

“Hospital?” they all said at the same time.

“Yes‚” I replied quickly. “I sprained my ankle. I had to get it checked.”

I left out everything else.

I didn’t tell them about slipping in the bathroom while my mind was full of a certain someone. I didn’t tell them about that same certain someone showing up to help me. I didn’t tell them about being taken to the hospital by him and getting fingered by him in his office as a form of massage. I didn’t tell them about the words he said to me.

I want you. I’m addicted to you.

“Oh‚ honey‚” my mom said and hugged me again. “How are you feeling now?”

“I’m okay‚” I said. “They gave me something for the pain. It should heal.”

They all nodded in relief.

“Next time‚ try to pick up your calls‚” my dad said firmly.

I nodded.

“Gabriel came.”

My body went stiff.

“Where is he?” I asked.

“He left‚” my mom said. “He didn’t see you. He called you too. Since he wanted you to escort him to a party and you weren’t answering‚ he had to leave.”

I let out a slow breath.

“He said he’ll call you tonight to check on you after the party‚” she added.

I nodded.

Deep down‚ I felt something I didn’t want to admit. Relief.

I didn’t even know how I would face Gabriel. Not after what had happened with Isaac.

My chest tightened.

Oh no.

Was what I did considered cheating?

I shook my head quickly.

No. It couldn’t be.

Could it?

“I’ll go upstairs now‚” I said.

“Yes‚ dear‚” my mom replied. “Go and rest. We’re having a family dinner this evening. My friend and his family will be joining us.”

I sighed again.

I wondered what she wanted to say. Dalia was my twin. We shared everything. Or at least we used to. Lately‚ she had been acting strange. She was secretive. She stayed out late. She came home smiling and quiet‚ like she was hiding something.

Like she was in a secretive relationship.

I shook the thought away and closed my eyes. Soon‚ sleep took over.

It felt like only minutes passed when I heard my mom’s voice from downstairs.

“They’re here! Come down. Dinner is ready.”

I opened my eyes and checked the time.

7:00 p.m.

My heart started racing again.

Then I heard his voice.

Isaac’s voice.

He was greeting my parents downstairs.

My stomach twisted.

Isaac was here.

I stood up quickly and went to the bathroom. I splashed water on my face and tried to calm myself. I took off my gown‚ ready to change into something else.

Then I heard a knock on my door.

Before I could say a word‚ the door opened.

Isaac walked in.

“Isaac‚” I gasped.

I quickly covered my naked body with my hands‚ my face burning with embarrassment.

He didn’t turn away like before.

Didn't also apologize like before.

He just walked straight toward me‚ grabbed me‚ and kissed me.
