Chapter 82: Abandoned, Again!

"Alicia, don’t push this." Alexander’s voice turned sharp, his patience snapping.

"What about the promise you made to Nana?" I asked, my voice unsteady as I held onto that last bit of hope.

He was always so quick to go to Lilian whenever she needed him... what did that say about the promise he made to stay by my side?

What kind of marriage was this, where my husband could be summoned away by another woman at any time?

"I only agreed to treat you well for Nana’s sake. That doesn’t mean I made any vows to you," he said coldly. "And right now, someone’s life is at stake. Yet you’re still arguing with me? Alicia, where is your empathy?"

His expression darkened further, impatience written all over his face. Without waiting for a response, he turned and strode out.

The door slammed shut behind him. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞

My strength gave out, and I fell back onto the bed.

Cold.

The entire room felt frozen, as if all warmth had been stripped away. Even under the covers, I couldn’t stop trembling. I buried my face into the blanket, trying to hold myself together.

His words echoed in my ears—

Don’t push this.

I never made any vows to you.

Where is your empathy?

Each sentence cut deep, like a blade carving into my chest.

I had gathered all my courage... only to be left with this.

Maybe I had expected too much.

The calm of the past few days had made me careless, almost letting me forget about Lilian... forget the distance that had always existed between Alexander and me.

As long as Lilian Summer existed in his life, even if we didn’t divorce, there would never be peace between us.

I shouldn’t have longed for that warmth. I should have known better.

So why did I keep forgetting?

Curling into myself, I shut my eyes, but sleep wouldn’t come. The ticking clock echoed loudly in the silence, stretching time endlessly.

At some point, exhaustion dragged me under—but even then, the ache in my heart remained.

The next morning, I woke to an empty bed.

The sheets beside me were smooth and cold, untouched.

No one had been there.

I glanced at the time. It was already past ten.

Suppressing the unease in my chest, I got up and went downstairs.

"Miss Alicia, you’re awake. I’ll prepare breakfast," Maria said softly.

"Has Alexander come back?" I asked.

She shook her head.

"No, Mr. Blackwood hasn’t returned."

"I see..."

The simple reply felt unexpectedly heavy.

Sitting on the sofa, I checked my phone.

Nothing.

Not a single message.

After breakfast, around eleven, I had Jim drive me to the hospital.

As I stepped out of the car, my gaze swept the area—then suddenly stopped.

A car I knew all too well was parked nearby.

At first, I thought I was mistaken.

But after a second look...

My fingers slowly tightened.

It was Alexander’s car.

Didn’t he go to see Lilian?

Then why was he here?

My steps slowed as I made my way upstairs. Before I even reached the room, a soft, familiar voice drifted out.

"Nana, it’s been three years since we last met... but you still look as young as ever."

My breath caught.

"You’re truly blessed. I’m sure you’ll recover soon."

Lilian.

A chill ran through my entire body, as if I’d been plunged into icy water.

Alexander... brought her here.

He actually brought her to see my grandmother.

Pain spread through my chest, sharp and suffocating.

Last night, he left me for her—and never came back.

No message. No explanation.

And now...
