"It’s noth—"
Shane Grant tried to force himself to say he was fine, but the stabbing pain was unbearable. Before he could finish his sentence, he started to fall to one side, and Cecelia Archer quickly caught him.
"How can you say you’re fine when you’re in this much pain? Did you sprain it or something? Let me see."
She knelt down and lifted Shane Grant’s pant leg.
In the mere seconds since he had landed, his ankle had already swollen rapidly. Cecelia Archer reached out and touched it.
"It’s dislocated! The bone is protruding! We need to get to a hospital, now!"
Zeke Walton rushed over. "What? The bone is protruding? It’s that serious? I told you two not to race, but you just had to do it! Let’s go, let’s go! I’ll carry you to the hospital!"
Without waiting for Shane Grant to object, Zeke grabbed his arm and hoisted him onto his back.
Damien Vaughn couldn’t believe Shane Grant was such a good actor. ’He’s willing to fake a fracture just to get Cecelia Archer’s sympathy.’
’It’s a good thing I came today. Otherwise, wouldn’t Cecelia be completely fooled by him?’
Zeke Walton jogged all the way to the car. Cecelia Archer ran after them and, without a word, tried to get in, but Damien Vaughn pulled her back.
"Where are you going?"
"To the hospital. Mr. Grant is injured."
He didn’t believe for a second that Shane Grant was actually hurt and said coldly,
"Zeke is a grown man. Can’t he take care of him? You’re not a doctor. What can you do by going with them?"
Cecelia Archer was speechless.
’How could he say something like that at a time like this?’
Seeing that Damien Vaughn was annoyed, Zeke Walton saw his chance. He shut the car door, locked it, and said to Cecelia Archer,
"Vaughn is right. I can take care of him by myself. Having more people there won’t help. You should just take good care of Annie. I’ll call you once we’re settled."
"Shane, you can rest assured leaving Annie with Cecelia, right?"
Shane Grant’s face was pale from the pain, and he barely had the strength to speak.
He forced himself to look out the window. Annie and Candy were standing together, holding hands, looking like they were brother and sister.
"I’ll have to trouble you then, Cecelia."
Damien Vaughn and Cecelia Archer took Annie home with them.
The Old Master was used to having Candy around. Not seeing her all day, he was sitting in the living room, staring blankly out of sheer boredom.
Suddenly, he heard the chirping voices of children and hurried out to greet them.
To his surprise, there was another little boy.
He had a fair complexion and delicate features, looking so much like Candy they could have been fraternal twins.
"This is..."
Seeing that his grandfather was about to jump to conclusions, Damien Vaughn stepped forward.
"He’s a friend’s son. His father suddenly felt unwell and was hospitalized, so the boy will be staying with us for a couple of days."
It gave the Old Master a start; for a moment, he thought Cecelia had given birth to fraternal twins.
’My, what adorable children. It would be wonderful if they really were fraternal twins.’
Cecelia Archer led the two children to the Old Master and said to Annie,
"This is Candy’s great-grandfather. Annie, you should call him Great-Grandpa too. Go on, say hello to Great-Grandpa."
Annie thought this old man looked a bit like his own grandfather, so he obediently greeted him. The Old Master reached out and patted his little head.
"What a handsome and bright little boy. Whose child is he?"
Damien Vaughn replied, "He’s from the Grant Family. His father is Shane Grant."
"Shane Grant?"
The Old Master paused. "It’s actually Grant’s son. The last time I saw him, he was just a young man. I can’t believe his child is already this big in the blink of an eye."
