Damien Vaughn looked at the foul-mouthed, greasy man and frowned again.
"He’s the one who told me to come. Who’s the woman?"
President Lewis scoffed. "That bastard Mason... He said she was a gift just for me, told me to have a good time with her. Son of a bitch! He sent you over without even telling you who she was? You’re really not picky at all."
Damien Vaughn had shown him more than enough patience, but the man just wouldn’t get to the point.
His patience completely spent, Damien Vaughn stood up and walked toward him, his expression frigid.
"Cut the crap. I’ll ask you one more time—who is she?"
Damien Vaughn was a good half a head taller than him and broad-shouldered. His physique alone was incredibly intimidating, and coupled with the look on his face, it made President Lewis instinctively take a step back.
"I didn’t say anything! What’s with the attitude? She’s just one of Shane Grant’s little assistants. She’ll do anything for business, women like her. They’re filthy. I suggest you forget about it. What kind of quality gift could a piece of trash like Mason possibly give us?"
’Shane Grant’s assistant? It’s related to Shane Grant again?’
Damien Vaughn immediately recalled the silhouettes he’d seen at the hospital that night, which looked so much like Shane Grant and Cecelia Archer.
’Could it really be her? Could she really not be dead? Is this all Shane Grant’s doing?’
After speaking, President Lewis picked up the contract she had left behind and disdainfully threw it on the floor.
"Stupid bitch. With an attitude like that, she expects me to sign her contract? In her dreams!"
As he spoke, he turned to leave, but Damien Vaughn’s arm shot out and snagged him by the back of his collar.
"What did you just throw? Pick it up and let me see."
President Lewis couldn’t fathom Damien Vaughn’s behavior, but knowing he was no match for him in a fight, he had no choice but to obediently pick up the contract.
As Damien Vaughn flipped through the document, President Lewis dutifully explained.
"The woman’s name is Luna Linden. Says she’s 25 and works as an assistant for Shane Grant. I don’t know what’s gotten into Shane Grant lately, but he wants to consolidate all the real estate companies in Veridia under his group, and he seems to be in a huge hurry. The woman said she has to get the contract signed by noon tomorrow."
’Luna Linden?’
Damien Vaughn flipped through the beautifully prepared proposal, silently repeating the name in his mind.
’So I was right.’
’Shane Grant is having cash flow problems and can’t secure any loans. Just as I suspected, he’s started trying to raise funds by any means necessary.’
’And he dares send *her* out to do it?’
’Did he really think I wouldn’t recognize her just because he gave her a new name?’
’Cecelia Archer definitely wrote this proposal!’
The case study and data it referenced were from a real incident his father had gone through when he was still alive.
Besides his grandfather and himself, no one else knew about it.
Once, when they had nothing better to do, his grandfather had told the story to Cecelia Archer.
Moreover, Cecelia Archer had her own unique writing style.
Even though there wasn’t much descriptive text, Damien Vaughn’s sharp senses told him it was her.
’She’s not dead! This is wonderful! Does that mean Candy is safe, too?’
’But then again,’ he thought, ’she’s not dead, yet she’s hiding out with Shane Grant and even acting as his front to raise funds...’
’What on earth is she up to?’
President Lewis was still rambling on.
"I used to think the Grant Group was some great company, way out of our league, but now they don’t seem so special. Doing all sorts of shady things for business. To get a contract signed, she’s willing to spend a night with so many men. Can you believe how much she’s willing to put on the line?"
"Hmph. I bet they call her an assistant, but she’s really just someone to fool around with Shane Grant at the office. No wonder the guy hasn’t remarried even though his wife died years ago. Everyone says he’s a dedicated workaholic who loves staying late at the office. I guess we know what kind of ’overtime’ he’s really been putting in."
The mere thought of Cecelia Archer being with Shane Grant ignited a raging fire in Damien Vaughn’s heart, yet this idiot was still here, rambling on, completely oblivious to the danger he was in.
Damien Vaughn suddenly lifted his gaze. His long leg shot out, and with a heavy THUD, President Lewis’s knees buckled, sending him kneeling to the floor.
"Agh!"
He hadn’t expected Damien Vaughn to suddenly kick him. Kneeling on the ground, he grimaced in pain.
