My Child and I Married a Billionaire novel Chapter 209

Chapter 209: Chapter 209: Don’t Let Me See You Again

Candy was still calling her on her phone watch.

Candy was fine.

The simmering rage inside Damien Vaughn suddenly subsided when he saw the number.

’Why do I have to force her to admit she’s Cecelia Archer?’

’Why do I have to find out what really happened that day?’

’Things have already come to this. Would admitting her identity change anything?’

’Or... do I really want to avenge my mother by making her pay with her life?’

’No.’

Damien Vaughn couldn’t be sure about much else, but he was certain he never wanted Cecelia Archer to die. He never wanted Candy to become an orphan.

Candy was so adorable, so smart, so beautiful...

For some reason, this child, who had no connection to him, made Damien more deeply concerned than even his mother or grandfather.

If he acknowledged Cecelia Archer’s identity, even if he could let her go, his grandfather and uncle never would.

Because of this little girl, the truth suddenly seemed unimportant.

After just a few minutes of talking to her, Damien felt as if he had drained all his energy.

Suddenly, everything felt pointless. It was all so damn messed up.

He and Cecelia Archer could never go back to how they were when they first met. Their lives could no longer intersect. In an instant, his life seemed to have lost all direction.

Damien’s mind was a mess. He released his grip on Cecelia Archer.

"You can stop the act. I won’t pursue what happened that day anymore. Just go. Take your daughter and leave Veridia. I don’t want to see you again."

"I won’t stoop to fighting with a woman, but you and Shane Grant must pay the price for what you’ve done. I’ll make him suffer a slow, ugly death, piece by piece."

"Don’t try to help him put up a pointless struggle. Don’t test my limits, and don’t provoke me again. Or else..."

Before he could finish, Damien glanced back at Cecelia Archer’s pale, frightened face, then got out of the car with a decisive, almost graceful stride.

The gleaming Bentley sped past her car and vanished in a cloud of dust. Faced with this sudden reprieve, Cecelia Archer was a bit stunned.

She didn’t understand why Damien had suddenly let her go, but she had heard his words loud and clear.

He wanted Shane Grant to die. Piece by piece. An ugly death.

’No,’ Cecelia couldn’t accept that.

She knew that trying to represent the Grant Group against the Vaughn Group was a futile effort, like an egg hitting a rock. She was overestimating her own abilities, but she couldn’t retreat.

Shane Grant was in this predicament because of her. If she abandoned him to save herself, letting the hard-won legacy of two generations of the Grant Family turn to dust, her conscience would never be clear. Even if she managed to eke out a meager existence, she would spend the rest of her days living in her own personal hell.

Cecelia Archer wouldn’t give up so easily.

’Even if it means death, I have to fight one last time. I’ll die alongside Shane Grant with no regrets.’

’Surviving by any means’ could describe her, but it would never describe Shane Grant.

Her phone rang again. Cecelia picked it up, and Candy’s innocent yet worried voice came through.

"Mommy, why aren’t you back yet? Did something happen? Are you okay?"

"It’s nothing, sweetie. Mommy went to the hospital to see Uncle Grant. I’m on my way back now."

After lulling the two children to sleep, an exhausted Cecelia returned to her room.

Just as she was about to take a shower, a message came from President Sterling.

"Linden, I’ve already contacted the others. We’re having a preliminary meeting tomorrow at 8 a.m. in the main conference room at my company. Does that work for you?"

President Sterling was a man of his word, taking this matter so seriously. Cecelia couldn’t let such a good opportunity go to waste.

"That works. See you tomorrow at 8 a.m."
