My Child and I Married a Billionaire novel Chapter 227

Chapter 227: Chapter 227: Give Up

One look at him told her the talk with her two uncles hadn’t worked. In fact, it had only annoyed him. Gwen Morgan felt a little ashamed.

But on second thought, ’I’ve already come this far, so what’s there to be ashamed of?’

She walked up to Damien Vaughn, her expression impassive.

"Is that so? You think I should listen to you just because you’ve said something many times? Then why don’t you listen to what I’ve been saying over and over?"

"I like you. I want to marry you. I want to be with you for the rest of my life. Damien Vaughn, I’ve said this many times, too. Why won’t you just listen?"

Damien Vaughn was speechless.

’How did I never realize Gwen Morgan was this crazy before?’

’Have all the men in Veridia died? Am I the only one left? Is she blind to every other man?’

"Think whatever you want. I’m not marrying you, and that’s final."

Gwen Morgan mimicked his tone. "Then you can think whatever you want, too, because I’m not leaving. In fact, not only am I not leaving, I’m coming to work at your company tomorrow. I’m going to be with you every single day. I’m going to watch you 24/7."

Damien Vaughn had already spoken and was turning to leave, but he stopped and looked back when he heard her declaration.

"You’re going to work at my company? You’re going to follow me around 24/7? Are you insane?"

"Are you surprised? You personally promised I could work at your company right after I came back to the country."

’That was before. That was when she didn’t have designs on me.’

If he had known she had designs on him, Damien Vaughn would have died before saying something like that.

"Acting like this just makes me think there’s something wrong with you."

Still, Damien Vaughn left without a second thought.

"I don’t approve. If you insist on coming, then go through the official interview process."

Fine, she’d go through the process. Gwen Morgan was nothing if not confident.

’With her stellar résumé, she wasn’t even applying for an executive position. She was more than qualified to be a regular employee at Vaughn Group.’

Grandpa was very pleased with Gwen Morgan’s bold declaration.

"My child, this has been hard on you. I’m so sorry you’ve had to go through all this."

"Don’t say that, Grandpa. I’m actually quite happy. I like Damien this way—he’s a real person, passionate and strong-willed. I wouldn’t even be interested in a man who just blindly agreed with me, put me on a pedestal, and had no mind of his own."

Grandpa was even happier to see Gwen Morgan thought that way.

"Good. Then you go right ahead tomorrow. If that little brat deliberately rejects your résumé, you call me."

The next day, Gwen Morgan actually went to the company.

Damien Vaughn was busy until eleven in the morning, when Ryan suddenly burst through the door, a panicked look on his face.

"President Vaughn."

"What’s so urgent that you forgot how to knock? What is it?"

Ryan was, in fact, truly startled.

’Cecelia Archer isn’t dead—she’s using an alias and is currently doing business with our company. If Gwen Morgan starts working here now, what if she finds out...’

He placed Gwen Morgan’s résumé in front of Damien Vaughn.

"Miss Morgan is here to apply for a job. She’s applying to be an assistant in the President’s Office."

Damien Vaughn had been expecting this, so he wasn’t flustered in the slightest. He didn’t even glance at the résumé.

"Reject her application."

"What?"

"Her major is unsuitable, she has no relevant work experience. Reject her outright."

Although Ryan was surprised by his boss’s words, he still felt President Vaughn was doing the right thing.

Armed with his marching orders, he squared his shoulders and left the office.

Soon enough, Gwen Morgan was arguing with him.

"Damien Vaughn told you to say that, didn’t he? Unsuitable major? No relevant work experience? He can go to hell! Where is he? Tell him to come say it to my face!"
