Cecelia Archer was at the international airport project site, discussing some data with an architect, when suddenly, a slender, pale hand reached out and snatched the blueprints from her grasp.
Cecelia and the architect both followed the hand with their eyes. She froze, never having imagined it would be Gwen Morgan.
Gwen Morgan loved her reaction.
Seeing the surprise and panic in Cecelia’s eyes, she curled her lips into a smug smile.
"Long time no see. You still remember me, right?"
’It must be because Damien got hurt recently. We’ve been seeing each other too much, and she found out.’
Cecelia had never thought she would one day have to face her alone and wasn’t mentally prepared to speak with her. She was silent for a couple of seconds before she spoke.
"Excuse me, I think you have the wrong person. I don’t know you. This is a construction site, miss. It’s very unsafe for you to come in dressed like that. Give me back my blueprints, and please leave immediately."
On the construction site, Cecelia wore sneakers, casual pants, a Grant Properties work uniform, and a hard hat.
Gwen Morgan, on the other hand, wore high heels, a knee-length dress, a brown overcoat, and had exquisite makeup and a trendy hairstyle...
’Judging from the fact that Cecelia changed her name, she’s clearly terrified of her identity being exposed. It’s not surprising at all that she won’t admit to being Cecelia.’
Gwen Morgan smiled.
"You may not know me, but I know you. Since I came all this way to find you, I obviously have something to say. Miss Linden, I’m a respectable person and I’d rather not make a scene. So please, show some decency yourself."
Though her face was all smiles, Cecelia could hear the threat in her voice.
Cecelia wasn’t afraid of Gwen making a scene and embarrassing her. She was afraid of disrupting the project’s progress, of distracting everyone from their work and causing an accident.
She returned the blueprints to the architect, and the two women went to the empty parking lot.
To Cecelia’s surprise, six black cars were parked side by side in the parking lot. Next to each car stood four bodyguards in sharp black suits and sunglasses. There were more than twenty of them in total, all standing with their hands behind their backs, their gazes fixed squarely on her.
Gwen Morgan walked smugly to the first car, turning to lean her elbow on the roof.
"Old Mr. Vaughn sent all these people just to ’invite’ you. You must be very important. Let’s go, Cecelia. There’s no one else around now, so you can drop the act. The old man has something to say to you. Go back, get your daughter, and come with me to see him."
’Cecelia had thought Gwen Morgan had come to see her alone, about her and Damien, but it turned out the old man had sent her.’
’How did the old man find out she wasn’t dead?’
’And he wants her to bring Candy, too... This...’
’Impossible! The old man had Candy thrown out once, nearly causing a lifelong tragedy. Just thinking about it gave her goosebumps. There was absolutely no way she would let Candy see the old man again!’
"Why go to all this trouble? Miss Morgan, may I ask why?"
"Oh? Just a moment ago you said you didn’t know me. How is it you know to call me Miss Morgan now?"
Gwen Morgan swayed over to her and lifted her chin.
"You’re a real shameless bitch, aren’t you? You like doing things the hard way. If I weren’t so classy, so concerned with keeping up appearances, I would’ve slapped your face raw in public just now."
"You’re a gold-digging whore who got pregnant out of wedlock, carrying a bastard child, trying to worm your way into the Vaughn Family, and even laid a hand on Damien’s mother. You’ve done so many wicked, appalling things, and you’re asking me for a reason? You tell me why! You’re not just fucking shameless, you’re playing dumb, aren’t you?"
"I don’t care if you play dumb with me, but the old man won’t let you off. Don’t think changing your name was enough to fool him. You deceived him so badly, you deserve to be torn to pieces, drawn and quartered."
Looking at the seething Gwen Morgan, Cecelia knew how much the woman loathed her. She could also guess how much the old man hated her, which was all the more reason she couldn’t let Candy go see him.
"I can go with you, but Candy is only three years old. This has nothing to do with her..."
"Cut the fucking crap!"
Gwen Morgan suddenly held up her phone, showing Cecelia a photo.
