My Fated Alpha's Cruel Game (Elena and Marcus) novel Chapter 341

Chapter 341: Chapter 341 Doubts Voiced Explicitly

Elena’s POV

The alarm hasn’t sounded yet when consciousness pulls me from restless sleep, my eyes opening to study the familiar ceiling while echoes of that distant howl weave through my chest like an unresolved melody. The bond rests quietly but remains vigilant, not disturbed but watchful, and I flatten my palm against my sternum as though I can physically touch the determination lodged there.

Next to me, Kian is already awake.

His breathing pattern gives him away when I shift position, too measured and intentional rather than the natural rhythm of rest, and when I glance sideways I discover him studying the opposite wall, his jaw clenched in a way that suggests hours of contemplation.

"Sleep didn’t come," I murmur.

"Barely," he confirms without defensiveness.

Neither of us offers explanations.

I throw back the blankets and rise, bare feet meeting the cold floor, allowing the sharp temperature to anchor me before the demands of daylight begin fragmenting my focus.

The water runs pleasantly hot without being punishing, vapor curling upward in gentle spirals as I work shampoo through my hair and let the steady motion organize my scattered thoughts. Each movement is deliberate, calculated, because if today serves as my declaration then it must emerge from discipline rather than impulse.

Stepping from the shower with a towel secured around me, I encounter my own gaze in the bathroom mirror and maintain the contact longer than habit dictates.

They consider me unpredictable.

Very well.

Unpredictable elements can still follow patterns.

The kitchen below holds unusual quiet in the early hour, most pack members still confined to their quarters, and I prepare coffee while Kian positions himself against the counter, sleeves already pushed back, patrol reports arranged precisely at his elbow. The rich aroma spreads through the room, dark and reassuring, and briefly the morning masquerades as routine.

Only briefly.

"The review happens in the courtyard," I announce, filling two cups without meeting his eyes.

His response comes without pause. "Open forum."

"Exactly."

He observes me carefully, and the bond adjusts subtly, not challenging my decision but synchronizing with it.

"They’ll interpret that as self-assurance," he notes.

"That’s precisely the message."
