25 Chapter 25 Secrets Unraveling
Marcus’s POV 1
“Viviana. You understand that’s impossible. As the Alpha, especially after tonight’s rogue attack, I need to handle the aftermath.” I stated firmly.
“That can wait until tomorrow.” She insisted, sliding her arms around my neck and pressing her lips to mine.
Goddess help me, I wanted nothing more than for this woman to disappear from my life completely.
I managed to extract myself gently from her embrace and brushed a quick kiss across her nose.
“I’ll return as quickly as possible. You have my word.” I promised.
“You’d better. I’ll be in bed, waiting for your return.” Her voice dripped with suggestion.
“I’m certain you will be.” I forced a smile as I set down my drink and headed for the
door once more.
The damage assessment revealed surprisingly minimal destruction from the attack.
With that handled, I made my way back to the medical facility to check on the warriors receiving treatment. Each one appeared to be recovering well from their injuries.
Elena was nowhere to be seen. However, I spotted Jett positioned outside one of the patient rooms, so I approached down the corridor.
“Her mother is inside with her.” Jett informed me.
“Iris doesn’t know about our bond, correct?” I inquired.
“No. Elena believes her mother wouldn’t handle the news well. Not considering what happened to her father.”
Jett provided the explanation.
“I suppose that’s understandable.” I acknowledged.
I turned toward the room, drew a steadying breath, then stepped through the doorway. Iris’s gaze lifted to meet mine.

“What brings you here?” She questioned.
“I wanted to check on her condition.” I replied.
“Since when do you care?” Iris challenged.
“I never claimed I didn’t care.”
“No. You simply abandoned us in those woods without any protection or patrol coverage. You knew this attack would happen. Your father was probably hoping I’d be the casualty, but instead my daughter lies here clinging to life.”
Iris spoke without looking at me.
“This wasn’t my intention. I’m implementing increased patrols. They’ll cover the entire border perimeter. Including the area around your trailer.” I assured her.
“Far too little, far too late. She’s everything I have remaining.” Iris stated.
“I understand that. And she’s what keeps you fighting.” I observed.
“What could you possibly know about any of this?” Iris snapped.
“Elena shared it with me.” I revealed. Her head jerked toward me sharply.
“What? Why would you be speaking with my daughter?”
“Because I’m not my father. I do care about pack members.”
“Really? You’ve held the Alpha position for years and never once spoken to me. You’ve made no effort to relocate us from that trailer. You haven’t attempted to help us in any way. Don’t claim you’re different from your father. You’re identical to him. Now, please leave my daughter’s room.” Iris demanded.
I knew my presence would accelerate Elena’s healing process. Just like before. But explaining this to Iris without revealing the mate bond seemed impossible.
“What are you waiting for? She’s not your concern.
She’s not your obligation. I’m capable of caring for my own child.” Iris’s voice grew sharper.
“She’s my mate.” The words escaped before I could stop them. Iris stared at me with wide eyes, completely stunned.
“Does she know this?” Iris stammered.

“Yes.” I confirmed.
“Why didn’t she inform me?”
“She thought you wouldn’t understand. You’re now under direct Alpha command not
to reveal to anyone that I’m mated to your daughter. This information cannot leave this room.” I ordered her with Alpha authority.
