44 Chapter 44 Safe Haven Call
Elena’s POV
“What is this supposed to be?” I questioned, staring at the luxurious space before me.
“This will be your room,” he replied matter–of–factly.
“Are you serious? This is way too extravagant. I could easily bunk with the other warriors in their quarters,” I protested.
“Over my dead body. You’re not getting within a mile of those savages. Every single one of them would be trying to get into your pants,” he declared firmly. I couldn’t help but roll my eyes at his assumption.
“I seriously doubt that would happen,” I countered.
“Elena, listen carefully. You’re not some omega refugee here. You’re a fellow werewolf and my friend, and that’s exactly how everyone will treat you. Forget about those rundown trailers in the wilderness. Forget about slaving away in some dingy warehouse for pennies. Forget about serving tables for pocket change. This place is your sanctuary now, so you better start accepting it,” he stated with unwavering determination.
“Why are you going to such lengths for me? Nobody has ever shown this level of concern before,” I whispered, my voice barely audible.
“I witnessed how he degraded you. It was crystal clear that you were drowning in danger. I don’t give a damn about his reputation or how intimidating he believes himself to be. Now go clean yourself up and rest. Today has been overwhelming enough,” he said gently.
“Whatever you say, boss,” I replied with a hint of sarcasm. He flashed me that characteristic smirk before stepping out and pulling the door shut.
I wandered over to the massive window and gazed out at the sprawling landscape. The college campus stretched out below me like a promise of everything I had ever dreamed of.

My pulse quickened with anticipation. Finally, I would b higher education and transform myself into something meaningful. That opportunity
had been nothing but a fantasy back in my old territory.

I settled into the chair positioned against the far wall and noticed the sleek device resting on the desktop. It was a state–of–the–art smartphone, already configured and ready for use.
My fingers trembled slightly as I punched in the digits for the emergency phone Damien had provided me. The connection went through almost instantly.
“Hello,” Mom’s familiar voice came through the speaker.
“Mom, it’s me, I breathed out.
“Elena, what in the world is going on?” she demanded, her tone sharp with worry.
“Are you safe right now?” I asked urgently.
“Absolutely not. The patrol team showed up at our door hours ago. They claimed you had abandoned the pack grounds entirely. Alpha Marcus has mobilized search parties to track you down,” she explained, her voice strained.
“I needed to reach out and assure you that I’m perfectly fine. You don’t have to lose sleep worrying about my wellbeing. Keep this device completely hidden and I’ll contact you whenever it’s possible. Do you understand?” I instructed.
“Where exactly are you hiding?” she pressed.
“I can’t reveal that information. If he decides to interrogate you under Alpha command, it’s safer if you remain ignorant of my whereabouts. Just trust that I’m completely protected,” I explained.
“But we don’t have any allies outside the pack,” she pointed out, confusion evident in
her tone.
“I do. I’ve managed to forge some genuine connections during my journey,” I assured
her.
“If you say so, I’ll have faith in your judgment,” she conceded reluctantly.
“I couldn’t bear the thought of your condition deteriorating because of anxiety over my disappearance. I had to let you know I’m alive and well, I confessed.
“My health isn’t going to decline any further,” she promised.
“That’s what I needed to hear. Continue following your treatment regimen. My physical absence doesn’t diminish how much I care about your recovery and overall wellness. I need you to prioritize your health,” I emphasized.

“I give you my word. Now that I’m confident in your safety, is there any possibility that Alpha Marcus could track you to your current location?” she inquired anxiously.
