98 Chapter 98 Hostile Homecoming
Elena’s POVD
Viviana positioned herself at the far end of the corridor, her eyes blazing with unmistakable hatred as she stared me down. The intensity of her glare made it crystal clear that if she could eliminate me from existence, she would do it without hesitation. Something told me she had already figured out exactly who I was in Marcus’s life, and why their marriage had been nothing but a hollow shell from the very beginning.
My sudden departure from this pack years ago had definitely played a role in that
disaster.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing here?” Viviana’s voice cut through the tension like a blade.
“I came to see my mother,” I replied, keeping my tone steady despite the fire building in my chest.
“Well, this happens to be my goddamn house, so you need to get your ass out of here right now.” Her voice escalated to a shriek that echoed through the hallway.
“No,” I stated simply, refusing to budge an inch.
“Did you just tell me no? I am the Luna of this entire pack. You will obey my commands.” The veins in her neck were becoming visible as her rage intensified.
“You can only claim the Luna title after you’ve been properly marked by your mate. Since you’re still unmarked, you can go straight to hell.” The words left my mouth with more satisfaction than I expected.
Heavy footsteps on the staircase announced Marcus’s arrival as he appeared behind his seething wife.
“What the fuck is happening up here?” he demanded, his eyes moving between us.
“I refuse to have this worthless bitch contaminating my home.” Viviana’s finger pointed at me like a weapon.
“Last I checked, this house belongs to me. And I decide who gets to enter it.” Marcus’s voice carried an authority that made Viviana’s face flush deeper red.
“Of course. The exact second she walks back into your life, I become completely

invisible to you.” Bitterness dripped from every word she spoke.
“Stop lying to yourself, Viviana. You stopped mattering to me years ago.” Marcus delivered the blow with brutal honesty.
Damien’s warm fingers interlaced with mine as he guided me past the couple who were now launching into what appeared to be a full–scale marital war. We descended the staircase together, leaving their voices to fade behind us.
“That’s definitely not our battle to fight,” Damien murmured as we reached the bottom
floor.
“Absolutely not,” I agreed wholeheartedly.
We decided to escape the suffocating atmosphere of the house and ventured into the heart of town. As we strolled through the familiar streets, I couldn’t ignore the numerous sets of eyes that followed our every movement.
Faces from my past materialized around every corner. People I recognized from my darker days in this place. The same individuals who had treated me like I was worth less than dirt beneath their feet. The ones who had made my existence here feel like a never–ending nightmare.
Then someone’s hand landed gently on my shoulder, interrupting my bitter memories. “Jett,” I breathed, spinning around to face him.
“How have you been holding up?” he asked, opening his arms for an embrace.
“I’m doing really well, actually. What about you?” I returned the hug, feeling genuine warmth for the first time since arriving.
“Can’t complain too much, given the circumstances,” he replied. Damien cleared his throat pointedly behind us.
“Oh damn, my bad. Jett, I want you to meet my mate, Damien. Damien, this is Jett. Marcus assigned him as my personal protection detail back in the day, but he’s the one who secretly provided me with the vehicle I needed to escape this place.” The words tumbled out before I could stop them.
“That stays between us,” Jett whispered urgently.
“Right, sorry about that,” I said sheepishly.
“It’s genuinely a pleasure to meet you,” Damien said, extending his hand toward Jett.

“The feeling is mutual. Elena, I have to say, you look completely transformed. Healthy, Content. Like a different person entirely.” Jett’s observation made me glance at Damien with a soft smile.
“I really am,” I confirmed.
“So you’ve built a life in another pack. And I’m detecting some Alpha energy radiating from your mate here,” Jett noted with interest.
“Damien leads the Obsidian Pack,” I explained.
“Which means you hold the Luna position?” he asked, eyebrows raised.
“That’s correct,” I nodded.
“I can barely believe it. I’m incredibly happy that things turned out so well for you. But what brought you back to this place?” His expression grew more serious.
“My mother’s condition. She’s deteriorating rapidly. I knew I had to see her one final time before she passes.” The words felt heavy leaving my mouth.
