Chapter 345
Julie’s point of view
The blood froze in my veins with absolute terror and panic, and I rushed with entirely naked, trembling feet toward the door, gripping with a spasm and panic upon the metal handle to prevent him from pushing and entering. I shouted with panting breaths, attempting to fake my tone and exhibit calmness:
"Steve... I am entirely naked right now and altering my clothes! Do not enter in any form or shape!!"
Steve stopped at the threshold, and his voice emerged tight with questioning and doubt:
"What indeed occurred, girl?! I heard a resounding, powerful sound like an impact and shattering coming from your room, and also a strange, muffled cry reached me seconds ago! What is this?"
I swallowed my saliva with a burning dryness restricting my throat, looking with terror at the body of Jake cast on the ground with his motionless, naked corpse. I said with an agitation I attempted with all the effort I was granted to conceal:
"I... I am well, Steve, do not worry... I merely tripped and fell from the wooden chair by mistake while arranging the room."
He asked with persistence from behind the wood without moving:
"Were you harmed in any form?! The sound of the impact was terrifying... let me enter to reassure myself of you personally."
I shook my head in definitive negation despite his inability to see me from behind the wood, and said with a hasty sharpness to distance him:
"No, Steve... I told you that I am well... nothing bad has certainly occurred to me, I am completely well and healthy."
Steve muttered with an anxiety that did not vanish easily from his tone, tracking in a firm, perplexed tone:
"Fine... don something with speed, Julie, and open... I want to enter right now to oversee you and reassure myself of your safety and your body from fracture."
I gripped the metal handle with tightness until my knuckles whitened from the tension, and shouted in a tone filled with anger to make him retreat:
"No! I told you that I am well and healthy already, Steve, do not exaggerate the matter, for God’s sake, and magnify trivial subjects without a cause... Go!"
A brief, heavy silence prevailed in which my brother sighed with a lack of resourcefulness and surrender, then said in a hesitant voice carrying another questioning:
"Fine, fine, as you wish, Julie... I will not press upon you, but do you know where Jake resides right now? I searched for him and did not find him."
I looked with widened eyes filled with gratification, spite, and terror together at the unconscious Jake, residing beneath my feet like a humiliated, naked corpse on the cold floor of the room, and I said:
"No... I have not witnessed him anywhere since the cancellation of the cursed gathering yesterday... I am not interested in his matter."
Steve responded with obvious perplexity while moving in the corridor with hesitant paces:
