Chapter 397
Julie’s POV
Every muscle in my body locked up in absolute panic, his ruthless implications swirling through my mind like a violent hurricane. He was planning to take his revenge on me in the most agonizing ways possible, dangling my only brother’s life over my head completely forgetting that he was the one who had started this dirty game, the one who had coldly decided to sell me off like a commodity after making me believe he actually loved me.
I swallowed a ragged breath, crossing my trembling hands over my damp chest as a wave of bitter defeat crashed over me.
"You’re threatening me with my brother?!" I cried out. "Why the hell are you doing this? Because I escaped from this filthy swamp? But I... I know the truth, Robert. I know damn well that you—"
With a swift, dismissive wave of his hand, his mouth twisting into a harder, more cynical sneer, he cut me off with words that tore my heart to shreds.
"What do you know? Please don’t tell me that your naive little mind actually believed I loved you, for God’s sake."
A suffocating, poisonous lump lodged itself in my throat, but I lifted my chin with wounded pride, my voice burning with agony.
"I know you don’t love me! But you have absolutely no idea why I fled this place that night... you don’t know that I—"
"I don’t need to know a single thing!" he barked, his voice cold and booming like a hard slap to my face, his dark, hardened gaze locking onto mine without a trace of mercy. "I never loved you to begin with, Julie. I only care about my money, and I paid your pathetic father a fortune for your filthy body!"
I stumbled a step back, the tips of my fingers going entirely numb. My voice came out cracked and trembling.
"So... you want to sell me?"
He stared down at me, his response coming in a terrifyingly quiet tone that felt heavier than any shout.
"You have absolutely no right to question what I do with your body from this moment on."
In that exact second, I felt the remaining shattered pieces of my heart grind into dust inside my chest. In the bitter, aching silence of my mind, I asked myself how on earth I could have ever fallen for this monster. How had my stupid, traitorous heart ever beaten for a man who viewed my entire existence as nothing more than a profitable transaction?
Swallowing the lump in my throat, I fought with everything in me to project a strength I didn’t possess, my voice dripping with pure hatred.
"I know exactly how to save my brother from your filthy claws."
He took slow, heavy steps toward me until his broad chest was nearly brushing against my face in a silent, dominating challenge. He slowly leaned down, whispering in a provoking hiss:
"And what exactly are you going to do? Try to seduce me with your cheap little tricks again?"
My eyes widened in sheer shock and absolute disgust.
