Chapter 402: 402/Does He Know About Your Dead Baby?

Chapter 402

Olivia’s POV

I paused at the external threshold leading to the club’s main corridor. I automatically raised my hand, my fingers sweeping through the carefully pinned strands of my hair while my eyes scanned my reflection in the small compact mirror fished from my purse.

Even though Robert’s brutal parting words still rang viciously in my ears—how he had explicitly shattered my pride, telling me that the moment he would look at me with desire would absolutely never come I simply could not stay away.

He had ordered me to know my place as nothing more than a expendable employee who could be fired without a second thought. Yet, as long as that wretched Julie had vanished into the dark, I convinced myself that my time would come.

I slipped the mirror back into my bag, snapping the metallic clasp shut with a sharp click. I walked down the dimly lit hallway with slow, deliberate strides. As I passed the door to that cursed room Julie’s room a cold shudder rippled down my spine.

I froze for a second, my hand hovering near the dark wood as my mind forced me back to that day. It was days after her escape. I had walked in carrying heavy black trash bags, ready to clear out her clothes so we could use the space for another girl. Suddenly, Robert’s storming footsteps had shattered the quiet.

He had violently slammed the door open, his face flushed with a terrifying, suffocating rage as he loomed over me. His voice had roared, vibrating through the walls:

"What the hell are you doing here, Olivia?!"

I had swallowed hard, my knuckles turning white as I gripped the plastic bags, my voice trembling in sheer terror:

"Nothing, Sir... I am only emptying the room because Julie left and won’t return. It is much better to use it for someone else..."

He hadn’t let me finish. He stepped directly into my space, his chest nearly brushing my shoulder as his eyes blazed with pure madness, his shout shaking the very floorboards:

"Put every single inch back where it belongs right now! And don’t you dare, Olivia... don’t you ever dare touch a single thing in this room or think about stepping foot inside it again!"

I snapped back to the present with a sharp, burning gasp, shaking my head aggressively to clear the memory. Even after her escape, he loved her in the most twisted, sick way. I adjusted the lapels of my blazer with a tight, defensive pull and continued up the stairs toward his office. Standing before the massive wooden door, I raised my hand and knocked three short, rapid raps.

His deep, gravelly voice echoed from within, sending a violent flutter through my chest:

"Come in."

I turned the handle, a practiced smile automatically forming on my lips.

But the moment the door swung open, the blood instantly froze in my veins. My feet glued themselves to the threshold as if I had been struck by a sudden paralysis. It was a living nightmare.

Julie.... Julie was sitting on the leather sofa, completely alive, her fingers moving with mechanical calm as she sorted through a thick stack of papers.

I stood there entirely exposed, my jaw slack, staring at her as if a ghost had just crawled out of a fresh grave. Robert’s harsh, mocking chuckle broke the silence from behind his desk. He leaned back in his leather chair, casually twirling a silver pen between his fingers as he watched my expression collapse:

"What is wrong with you, Olivia?" He tilted his head, his dark eyes glinting. "Have you seen a ghost in my office?"

I tried to move my jaw, but my throat felt completely parched. My voice left me in a breathless, ragged whisper that barely cut the air:

"Sir... I... I came to..."

The words completely died in my throat under Julie’s unreadable, silent gaze. Robert let out a bored, heavy sigh, tossing the silver pen onto the mahogany desk with a sharp clatter. He gestured toward the hallway with a cold, dismissive wave:

"When you are actually capable of speaking normally, come back. For now, get the hell out of my office."
