My Fiancé's 'Girl' Gave Me a Buzzcut. I Gave Her a Subpoena for Their Wedding. novel Chapter 19

Chapter 11

Ethan really did it-sold everything. Properties, stocks, his art collection. Even put the family estate on the market.

Moved into some cramped apartment. Spent his days getting drunk and haunting the cemetery.

He’d camp out in front of my headstone, talking to himself.

Sometimes about the business. Sometimes about when we were kids.

Sometimes he’d just sit there.

All damn day.

Lily tracked him down once. Called him insane.

“You threw away EVERYTHING for a dead woman!”

“What about Dad?! What about your brother?!”

Ethan looked at her like she wasn’t even there:

“And what about her?”

“What about our daughter?”

Lily couldn’t come up with an answer. Left crying.

Never came back.

By month three, I was bored watching the feeds.

The satisfaction I’d felt when his company tanked? Long gone.

All that was left was this hollow feeling.

And something I didn’t want to admit-a weird kind of sadness.

Dad asked: “Had enough?”

“Come home. The family needs you.”

I nodded. “Tomorrow.”

“Tonight… I want to see the cemetery.”

Dad’s face hardened. “Too risky.”

“He’s got nothing to lose. If he figures out you’re alive-”

“He won’t.” I cut him off. “I’ll stay back. Just need to see him one last time.”

“Then it’s over.”

Long silence. Dad finally nodded. “Take the security team.”

“Anything goes wrong, you call.”

The cemetery was dead quiet at night.

I stood in the shadows, watching Ethan slumped by my headstone.

He looked wrecked. Lost weight. Hair going gray.

Not even forty yet, but he looked fifty.

Bottle in his hand, drinking and rambling.

“Went to a shrink today.”

“Said I’m depressed. Gave me pills.”

“Told him I don’t need pills. I just miss you.”

“Miss your cooking. Miss you nagging me about drinking. Miss you rubbing your belly and saying the baby kicked…”

He took a swig, started coughing. Couldn’t stop.

When he finally caught his breath, his voice was destroyed:

“But I can’t remember anymore.”

“Your face. Your voice. It’s all fading.”

“What if I forget you completely?”

“What the hell am I supposed to do then…”

He collapsed against the headstone. Shoulders shaking.

Crying.

I turned to leave.

Kicked a rock.

Ethan’s head snapped up. “Who’s there?!”

I froze.

He stood up, started walking toward me.

My security moved to pull me back. I shook my head.

Been hiding long enough. Time to face him.

Ethan stopped at the edge of the shadows.

Moonlight hit my face.

He stared. Eyes went wide as plates.

Like he’d seen a ghost.

“You…”

“Yeah. Me.” My voice was flat. “Surprise.”

Ethan’s mouth opened. Nothing came out.

Just kept staring-shock, confusion, then this wild, desperate hope.

He lunged forward to grab me.

Security stepped in, blocked him.

“You’re ALIVE! I KNEW IT!”

“I knew you couldn’t be dead!”

He tried to shove past them. Couldn’t.

That’s when he noticed-four guys in black suits flanking me.

“Who are they?” Ethan went still.

“My people.”

The joy drained from his face.

He looked me over-head to toe.

Designer suit. Perfect makeup. Ice-cold expression.

Nothing like the sweet, quiet wife he remembered.

“Who the hell are you?”

I almost smiled. “Let me reintroduce myself.”

“Shen Qingcheng. Eldest daughter of the Shen family.”

“Current heir to the Coleone crime family.”

Ethan stumbled backward.

Like I’d punched him in the gut.

“That’s impossible-you said you were nobody-”

“I lied.” Simple as that. “My father told me not to marry you. Said you’d eat me alive.”

“I didn’t believe him.”

“Turns out he was right.”

Ethan shook his head over and over:

“So the company going under-that was YOU-”

“Yep.” I didn’t flinch. “My father handled it.”

“He said anyone who touches his daughter pays the price.”

“I agreed.”

Ethan’s eyes went red:

“Why didn’t you TELL ME?!”

“If I’d known who you really were, I never would’ve-”

“Would’ve what?” I cut him off. “Treated me better?”

“Let me live?”

“Stop lying to yourself, Ethan.”

“You loved that I was nobody. Easy to control.”

“If you’d known I had power? You wouldn’t have married me.”

“Hell, you probably would’ve tried to kill me yourself. Take over my family’s empire.”

Ethan went quiet. Because I was right.

He stared at me. The pain in his eyes shifted-turned to hate.

“So you’ve been playing me this whole time.”

“Watching me fall apart-broke, guilty, destroyed-”

“That make you happy?”

I shook my head. “No.”

“Watching you suffer didn’t make me happy.”

“Just felt… fair.”

Ethan laughed-ugly, bitter: “Fair?”

“Don’t give me that self-righteous crap!”

“If you’d told me the truth from the start, NONE of this would’ve happened!”

“Yeah, I screwed up! But you LIED! You DESTROYED me!”

“You’re worse than I ever was!”

He charged.

Security dropped him in seconds. Pinned him to the ground.

Ethan thrashed, screaming: “I HOPE YOU ROT IN HELL!”

“You’re gonna regret this! I swear I’ll-”

One of my guys knocked him out cold.

“Miss? What do we do with him?”

I looked down at Ethan’s unconscious body.

Long silence.

“Take him home.”

“And make sure I never see him again.”
