Chapter 32 Uninvited Guest
Some birds flew past the window. Only then did Reina see clearly-most of them were Level 2 and Level 3 mutant tits, less than three feet in size.
There were also some mutant magpies and other birds over three feet long, but they all had one thing in common-they ate poisonous bugs.
Reina watched, focused, casually tossing a handful of meat cubes into her mouth as she chewed.
She had used her skills a lot just now, and her Energy had dropped. She needed to refill it fast. She still
wanted to harvest some Level 2 and Level 3 mutant birds.
“Chirp! Chirp!”
A small mutant magpie landed outside the window, tilting its head as it stared at Reina through the wire mesh.
Her first instinct was to use Harvesting Ability.
But these birds held grudges and could recognize people. If she hit a small one, the bigger ones would come. They wouldn’t stop until she was dead.
At that point, she wouldn’t even be able to step out of the building.
Still, she could at least use her Eye of Insight.
“Energy -1. Scouting +10. Target stats: Level 2 mutant magpie. Age: 4 months. Energy: 25. Skill: Level 2 Shriek. Deals 6-15 points of mental attack damage. Range 15 feet. Duration: 3 seconds. Each use consumes 8 points of Energy.”
Reina froze.
Even a Level 2 mutant magpie had better stats than her, and it even had a mental attack.
Good thing she didn’t try harvesting it. If she pissed it off, she’d be dead for sure.
Instinctively, Reina backed away, putting distance between herself and the dangerous bird.
But the magpie outside suddenly got agitated. It kept flapping against the wire mesh, like it wanted to get in.
Reina jumped, turned, and ran.
In the next second, the wire mesh and glass shattered. A black blur shot inside like lightning, chasing straight after her.
Reina had just touched the doorknob when she felt something grab her shoulder.
Her face went stiff. She slowly turned her head.
The magpie was perched on her shoulder, chirping nonstop, flapping its wings, and smacking her head. Its little black eyes were locked onto the meat cubes in her hand.

Chapter 32 Uninvited Guest
Reina calmed herself, swallowed, and slowly raised her arm, offering the few pieces of meat in her palf.
The little magpie quickly pecked them up. Then it tilted its head and stared at her again. The meaning couldn’t be clearer.
With no choice, Reina took out another small handful and held it out to it.
The little magpie ate happily. Its sharp beak pecked the meat cubes perfectly, never grazing Reina’s soft palm.
Reina started thinking. When it finished eating again, but still didn’t leave, she put some meat cubes into a bowl and set it on the windowsill.
“Eat. When you’re full, leave. Don’t come back.”
But things didn’t go as planned. This time, the little magpie only ate half, then stopped. It didn’t leave either. It just hopped around the room, playing by itself.
What a clueless little thing. It didn’t even know it was close to death.
Reina walked to the window to block the hole so she could deal with the bird later.
Luckily, only one part of the window was broken-about two feet wide. Otherwise, she’d have nothing to cover it with.
“Chirp! Chirp!” The little magpie hopped over again and stood on the broken window, tilting its head as it stared at Reina. Its eyes were now more alert.
Reina clearly felt a hint of hostility in the air. She froze, slowly putting down the gas tank in her hand, and gave an awkward smile. “There’s a hole in the window. Bugs might fly in.”
The magpie clearly didn’t trust her anymore, but it didn’t attack. It just paced back and forth on the windowsill, refusing to leave.
An hour passed like this. Reina lay on her small wooden bed, scrolling through her smartwatch, not even glancing at the bird.
The screen was filled with posts and videos about the Bug Tide. The hardest-hit area seemed to be Greenfinch Base.
The base had even sent out drones to spray chemicals, trying to kill the overwhelming number of mutant
insects.
But it was useless. It barely made a difference.
Just then, her smartwatch rang. Before Reina could answer, the magpie suddenly darted over and pecked it.
Crack. The screen shattered.
“You bad bird! Why’d you break my smartwatch?!”
Reina pushed the magpie aside and quickly checked it.
Luckily, only the screen was broken. Everything else still worked.
