A hotel suite with its own library is something I have never seen before in my life, however, I guess that it’s just a thing that they do in Singapore or maybe this particular one.

“Ms. Stark, this is your suite,” says the bellman as he places my luggage on what is probably a $1000.00 luggage rack. He continues to show me around and say, “the bedroom is through there, and the bathroom is to the left of the bedroom; you will find the study with a desk if you need to work; the mini bar is also well stocked, if you need anything call 0. Enjoy your stay.” Then he walks out and I have to try to process the word “study” just as he leaves.

I am walking slowly through the suite stopping to look at all of the things in the suite. The floors are made of marble; the curtains are made of silk; there is an orchid on every surface in sight; and I could soak 3 people in the bathtub of the master bath; I could fit two more of the queen sized bed with how large the room is.”

There are floor-to-ceiling windows in the suite that offer a view of all Singapore below me. It is so beautiful and modern and nothing like home.

I can’t believe I am here! I am on the other side of the world in a hotel suite that definitely costs a lot.

My phone vibrating brings me back to reality; I look to see a text message from Aidan, “are you settled in?”

I type back: I think I need a map to navigate this suite. There’s a library. An actual library.

A: Wait until you see the bathroom. The tub has jets.

L: How do you know what my bathroom looks like?

Three dots appear. Disappear. Appear again.

A: I booked the suites. Made sure you got one of the nicer ones.

I walk back to the living area, sink into a chair that’s more comfortable than my bed at home

L: Where’s your room?

A: Two floors up. The executive level.

Two floors. Separate floors. Of course we’re on separate floors. We’re colleagues. Boss and employee. This is a business trip.

So why does my stomach sink at the confirmation?

Get some rest, his next message reads. Jet lag will hit in a few hours. We have the Lee meeting at 2 PM. I’ll meet you in the lobby at 1:30.

L: Okay. See you then.

I set my phone down. Look around the empty suite. At the enormous bed I’ll sleep in alone. At the space that feels too big for one person.

Stop it. Lila. You’re being ridiculous.

I should unpack. Should shower. Should sleep like Aidan suggested.

Instead, I walk to the windows. Press my forehead against the cool glass. Watch the city below, taxis and pedestrians and a world I’ve never experienced.

A world Aidan brought me to.

A knock at the door makes me jump.

I open it. Aidan stands there, still in his travel clothes, jeans and a casual button-down that I’ve never seen him wear. He looks… different. Less CEO. More human.

“Hi, I said stupidly.

“Hi.” Aidan replied holding a bag in his arms. “I thought you may not have had enough time to pack well and so I had Christine help me put together some essentials you might need such as skincare, hair care, and other things hotels never do right.” He thought about my skincare. He thought about me. “You didn’t need to…”

“I wanted to.” He hands over the bag to me. “Also, I don’t know if you’re hungry but I ordered room service for both of us. My meal is being delivered to my suite in 20 minutes. If you would like, you can join me.”

I feel a flutter in my heart. “You want to have dinner with me?”

“If you are not too tired. then I thought we could review the meeting notes one more time to make sure we’re both on the same page.” He pauses. “But if you want to take a break…”

“No!” I was too excited about the prospect of having dinner with Aiden. “I mean, yes, that sounds good. It’s a business dinner. It’s a strategic dinner.”

Aidan’s eyes brighten with something that looks like amusement.

“Twenty minutes” is all he states to me. “41st floor – suite 4105.”

Before I have the chance to respond to him, he leaves.

I push the door closed and lean against it while I take a few deep breaths.

Dinner, Aidan’s suite, just the two of us.

It’s a business dinner, and it’s professional in nature; stop thinking too far outside the box, Lila!

I take the first of the 20 minutes available to me to take a shower, I have found out that there are jets in the bathtub, and they do feel amazing, and I get changed into something casual but nice, a cream two piece

lounge wear. While my hair is still down and wet, I have to decide whether or not to wear any makeup; is this a makeup situation?
