My Husband Said His Student Was More Important Than His Pregnant Wife Until I Asked for Divorce novel Chapter 18

Chapter 8

The moment Mr. Pearson woke up, Jacob fell straight to his knees beside the hospital bed, his eyes

red-rimmed.

“I’m sorry, Dad…”

Mr. Pearson reached for the water jug by the bedside and hurled it at Jacob’s forehead. “You coward.”

“You let a member of your staff abuse your own parents in your home.”

Seeing how agitated he was, I quickly stepped forward to soothe him.

Although Jacob had treated me poorly, my in-laws had always been kind to me. That was the main reason I

had stayed in this marriage for so long.

Mr. Pearson patted my hand. “Sophia, my dear girl.”

“Things are still blurry, but I remember enough. Thank you for getting us here.”

His gaze moved slowly around the room before settling back on me, hesitant. “Where’s Margaret? That

allergy… is she… recovering?”

His question hung in the air. I didn’t know how to respond. Jacob’s face turned ashen.

My father-in-law was a sharp man. Seeing our expressions, he understood immediately. His eyes welled up

instantly.

Jacob sank to the floor beside the bed, his voice raw. “I’m sorry, Dad. This is on me. If I hadn’t let Victoria

have so much control, Mom would still…”

“Dad… I’m so sorry.”

Mr. Pearson’s face hardened. He gripped the cane at his bedside and pointed it sharply at Jacob. “Get out of

this room. I don’t have a son anymore.”

“That was your own mother! And you let an outsider kill her!”

“Have you no shame left, Jacob?!”

“Your mother built that hospital for you to heal people. And you couldn’t even save her?”

Blood trickled from the wound on Jacob’s head where the jug had struck, but he made no sound, only

continued to kowtow and apologize.

I briefly summarized the events of that day for Mr. Pearson.

He shut his eyes tight, forcing back his tears. After a long silence, he spoke slowly, his voice heavy. “Call my

lawyer and a notary public.”

“Effective immediately, you are no longer a Pearson. Every dollar, every resource, every asset that carried our

name is revoked.”

“What you do from this day forward is your business. You are not mine, and you are not this family’s.”

Jacob’s head snapped up, his expression one of utter disbelief. “Dad!!! I’m your son!”

“How can you do this to me?!”.

His words only fanned the flames of my father-in-law’s rage.

“My son?!”

“You stopped being my son when you let your mother die in front of you.”

“When you said she ‘had it coming’, did you forget she was the woman who raised you?”

My father-in-law struck Jacob repeatedly with the cane in his fury. Jacob didn’t dare to dodge a single blow.

Then, my father-in-law turned his gaze to me. “Sophia, you’ve been nothing but good to this family. You

deserve better than my son.”

“I brought you into this marriage. Let me be the one to end it. I want you to divorce him.”
