My Husband Said His Student Was More Important Than His Pregnant Wife Until I Asked for Divorce novel Chapter 6

Chapter 6

Ethan tried to step forward, but I held him there with just one look.

“Chloe, what are you doing?”

I ignored him. Once we reached the hospital, a message from him popped up.

[What exactly are you trying to do? Do you have to make this into such a big deal?]

I read it right after they wheeled Mom into the emergency room.

The last flicker of affection in my eyes died completely.

What was I doing?

Ethan Montgomery. You’d find out soon enough.

I didn’t reply. I just stared at the harsh red light above the operating room doors.

Every second felt like an hour.

My earlier anger drowned in a wave of suffocating fear.

Ethan was only just starting to realize the weight of what I’d said.

“Professor Montgomery?”

Lila’s face held panic, and a flicker of quiet relief.

“Don’t worry. Chloe… she’s just upset. She didn’t mean it.”

She moved closer, her voice soft and coaxing.

“She only just took over the family business. She can’t have that much power to just cut investments like

that. It would hurt the Bennett family too…”

Ethan latched onto the words like someone clutching at straws. He grabbed her wrist so hard she flinched.

“You’re right. She can’t… the Bennetts won’t let her act this recklessly…”

He was more talking to himself than to her, fighting back his growing panic.

He took a deep breath, trying to keep up his usual composure.

“She’s just stressed about her mom. I shouldn’t have lost my temper either. I’ll apologize to her later. She’ll

forgive me for the baby’s sake if nothing else…”

He rambled on, not noticing how dark Lila’s expression had become.

Time blurred. Eventually, the light above the operating room switched off.

The doctor stepped out and nodded at me.

“She arrived just in time. She’s out of immediate danger.”

The tightness in my chest finally loosened.

His voice turned grave.

“But from now on, she must avoid emotional stress. Any shock could cause irreversible damage. She needs

long-term rest and peace.”

I nodded silently and went into the hospital room.

Dad stood by the bed, looking as if he’d aged ten years overnight.

I gently took Mom’s cold, weak hand. My fingers trembled.

“Mom, I’m sorry… it won’t happen again. No one who hurts you gets away with it.”

By the time I settled everything, it was late at night.

My phone lit up repeatedly in the dark.

Messages from close friends.

[Chloe, are you okay? I heard your mom’s in the hospital. Do you need help?]

[Ms. Bennett, regarding the Montgomery family… your orders this afternoon are being carried out.]

[Ethan and that student of his-they were caught on camera!]

I tapped the link in the last message,

The video showed the two of them singing together intimately on the homecoming stage.

People quickly identified Ethan and Lila.

It went viral immediately,

Incredibly, Lila didn’t back down. She reposted the video with a caption: [The truth speaks for itself. Thank you to everyone who believes me. Professor Montgomery and I have nothing but a pure student-teacher relationship. Please stop spreading rumors. He’s a dedicated, kind teacher.]

Shockingly, some people bought it and defended her.

[Why is everyone so quick to attack a teacher and student? It was just a stage performance.]
