My Husband’s “Work Wife” Is Just a SISTER? Let Me Teach Her How Family Trees Work novel Chapter 50

Chapter 4

A chill seeped into my bones.

With no other choice, I decided to call the police again. But after fumbling for my phone, I couldn’t find it anywhere.

Suddenly, I realized, Jacob must have taken it during our earlier confrontation!

I tried to borrow a phone from others waiting nearby, but a circle of tall security guards surrounded me.

The lead guard spoke, ‘Dr. Pearson’s orders. You wait your turn, you don’t leave, and you don’t call anyone. Just sit tight

until your number’s called.”

With all hope extinguished, I leaned weakly against the hospital wall, forced to accept reality.

But Mrs. Pearson’s breathing had nearly stopped, and Mr. Pearson’s condition was also critical. I don’t know how much

time passed before my number was finally called.

I urgently asked the medical staff to lift my in-laws onto stretchers, but at that moment, a doctor stopped me.

“Mrs. Pearson, hospital policy requires an advance payment before we can initiate treatment. The estimate is two

thousand dollars.”

I stared at him. “This is a critical emergency, they could die! Begin treatment immediately. I’ll secure the payment right

now!”

To my disbelief, the doctor refused. “Dr. Pearson made it very clear. Even though you’re his wife, he expects you to follow

the same rules as everyone else, no exceptions.”

“He said if anything, being family means you should set the example. I’m sorry, but I can’t start treatment without

payment.”

Dizzy with anger, I had no choice but to rush to Victoria’s room.

Pushing the door open, I saw Victoria had removed her outer clothes, leaving only a black lace bra. Jacob was leaning

close to her neck, doing who knows what.

Seeing me burst in, Jacob straightened up abruptly, looking momentarily flustered.

He recovered quickly, his tone accusing. “You couldn’t knock? Do basic manners mean nothing where you’re from?”

Victoria feigned a jump. “Ma’am, please, it’s not what it looks like. Jacob was only examining the cut.”

Despite her words, the challenge in her eyes was unmistakable.

I had no time for her mind games. I turned to Jacob. “I need $2,000 for the payment, or the hospital won’t treat them.”

Seeing my indifferent attitude, Jacob’s face darkened. “I’ve said before, all household expenses must go through Victoria

for approval.”

With that, he walked out of the room without another word.

I looked at Victoria. “Give me the money.”

Shedding her earlier fragile act, she sneered at me. “Madam, that’s not how you ask for a favor.”

“Where’s that fearless woman who held a blade to my neck?”

“You want the money? On your knees. Say you’re sorry.”

My hands curled into fists, but with two lives hanging in the balance, I forced myself down. “I’m sorry.”

Victoria laughed heartily, clearly pleased. “Good. Now you can go tend to your poor, unfortunate parents.”

The money will be transferred to your account shortly.”

I immediately got up and ran to the first-floor lobby. Just as I was about to pay, I saw only $20 had been deposited into

my account!
