"What is it? Peter, I don’t understand… I’ve never asked you for anything. Well, except earlier, when I made you promise not to leave me alone with our kids. That alone would make me happy."
"I know! But this time, I want to do things right… I mean, I’m a man, a proper man—I can’t keep doing things halfway anymore.
"Celeste… I love you, and I will never leave you alone. That’s why there’s something I have to ask you…
"Will you marry me? I can’t promise it’ll be easy, but I swear it’ll be one hell of an adventure—at least for as long as I have left."
Peter pulled out a small ring—a blue sapphire surrounded by fourteen diamonds.
He had asked Maximus to get that exact design. It had been made for a well-known princess. He would’ve loved to create something unique, but given the circumstances, he had to improvise.
Peter knew gemstones well; in his past, it had been one of his many skills. He understood their meanings. A sapphire symbolized purity, honesty, trust, and loyalty—all qualities he had seen in Celeste. And if diamonds meant eternal love, surrounding the sapphire with them was his way of proving that every day for the rest of his life.
Celeste stared at the ring. It was stunning. She had never imagined someone would propose to her with something like this.
"What do you say? Say something…"
Her eyes filled with tears. She looked at the man holding the ring, smiled, and then broke into sobs. A wave of emotions crashed over her, ones she couldn’t even begin to understand. And, of course, her pregnancy hormones weren’t helping.
"Yes… I do…" she whispered, her voice trembling as she leaned in and kissed Peter.
He took her hand, slid the ring onto her finger, and said:
"I love you. I love you, Celeste! It took me so many years to find you. So many years to finally meet you… You were the missing piece. I already had a good family, but there was always something missing. That something was you—and our children. Now, more than ever, I have to fight to recover."
"Peter…"
"Celeste… I know this has all been so sudden. But this is my life, and now, you are part of it. God, I can’t wait to go home with you by my side."
"Peter… I just want you to know that I love you too. You’ve stolen every word I wanted to say. I never thought I’d feel this way again… Now, we both have to give it our all so we can go home soon.
"Just one thing…"
Peter had never felt happier. He had been alone for so many years, but now, Celeste would be by his side. Seeing the life they had created growing inside her filled his heart with warmth.
Everything seemed perfect.
Until Peter suddenly clutched his head.
"Celeste, please… Take Ethan to the couch. Call the doctor… Damn it, my head! Celeste! Please, get Dr. Wagner… I don’t feel well…"
"Peter, hold on, I’m coming! Just breathe, I’ll be right back."
Celeste picked up little Ethan, placed him on the couch, and ran out of the room, her face full of fear.
"Maximus, we need to call Dr. Wagner! Peter isn’t feeling well…" she said, almost in tears.
"Calm down! Everything’s going to be fine… Stay with him, I’ll get the doctor right now."
