When Lucretius brought us to his private chamber, I was starting to feel my eyes getting heavier, my head already leaning on his shoulder. As soon as he gently lay me down on his bed, I struggled to fight off the drowsiness threatening to take over.
His faint scent of sandalwood and smoke lingered in the air. It wrapped around me like an invisible thread, comforting yet dizzying at the same time. My hands gripped the sheets beneath me as I tried to stay awake, blinking away.
He crouched in front of me, gently taking off my heels before proceeding to sit on the edge of the bed to remove the hair ornaments on my head. “You did well tonight,” he murmured, his tone gentler than I had ever heard from him. “I didn’t expect you’d play the part so perfectly.”
A sleepy smile tugged at my lips. “Play the part?” I parroted. “Of course. Did you see their reaction? It’s the most fascinating view I’ve ever seen.”
His lips curled into a knowing smirk when he gently pulled the last hair ornament and set it on the bedside table. “I know, I know. That’s why I am impressed with your acting skills, wifey.”
A sleep cackle escaped from my mouth. “I know…” I replied, fluttering my eyelids.
“You should rest,” he murmured.
I blinked up at him, his figure illuminated by the soft golden light of the wall lamps. The tailored black coat he wore earlier was gone, leaving only the white tunic, and a few buttons were undone.
I averted my gaze, feeling the warmth rush to my cheeks. “I–I’m not sleepy,” I protested weakly, and I got betrayed when a yawn escaped from me.
He chuckled softly. “You’ve been on your feet the entire night. I should’ve known you’d reach your limit soon.”
I tried to glare at him for that, but the moment his fingers brushed a loose strand of hair from my face, my heart skipped a beat. His touch was gentle, almost hesitant. It was so different from the dominating commander and Alpha who had boldly claimed me before everyone tonight.
My eyelids fluttered again. “You… planned everything, didn’t you?” I muttered.
The way everything happened tonight was so smooth, and I didn’t expect that everything would go well. But the part where Lilith poured me a drink, I’d say it favored me a lot. I must say, I should be thanking her for that.
Lucretius stilled before his lips drew out a smirk. “Of course. You didn’t think I’d let them question my wife, did you?”
“I still can’t believe you actually kissed me in front of them,” I whispered, remembering the way the crowd gasped, the way his lips felt… they were warm and possessive.
And my wolf didn’t protest and never felt disgusted. She was more focused on the revenge, that we were hurting our tormer
mate.
He leaned closer, his breath touching against my temple. “You didn’t seem to mind,” he said teasingly. “And I know well that t entertained you with their reaction, hmm?”
I opened my mouth to argue, but before I could, he pressed a finger against my lips. “Sleep, Euphyllia,” he murmured “We can talk tomorrow.”
As if on cue, and with his voice low and velvety, I knew that it was impossible to resist. My body gave in before my mind could protest.
The last thing I felt before the darkness claimed me was the soft brush of his lips on my forehead as he whispered,
“Mine.”
The next morning, I stirred awake, feeling warmth. It wasn’t because of the sunlight peeking through the heavy curtains or the

blankets, but it was from the arm draped loosely around my waist. My heart froze for nanoseconds when I realized someone was behind me.
His steady breath fanned the back of my neck, feeling a little ticklish.
For a moment, I thought I was dreaming. But then came the light caress of his thumb against my hip, sending shivers down my spine.
Lucretius.
Suddenly, the memories of last night crashed over me. The announcement, the dance, the kiss, Redmund and Lilith’s reactions, and how he carried me in front of everyone before I even realized what was happening, I buried my face in the pillow, half in embarrassment, half in disbelief upon remembering the endearment I called him.
What in the world had possessed me to call him “hubby“?
Was it because I wanted to show Redmund and Lilith how close Lucretius and I were? That we were real lovers just like them?
That must be it… I convinced myself.
“You’re awake.”
His voice, hoarse from sleep, vibrated against my back, causing me to freeze.
“I can feel your heartbeat,” he said, the hint of amusement in his tone making my pulse race even more as he slightly squeezed my hip, causing me to rattle. “You’re nervous.”
“I’m not,” I finally replied in a defensive tone.
He chuckled, his breath tracing the shell of my ear. “You really should stop lying to me, wifey. You are easy

read.”
I squinted my eyes and couldn’t help turning my head at him, but soon, my eyes widened when I realized our faces were close to each other. Lucretius flashed a lazy smirk the moment our eyes met.
My cheeks burned before I immediately snapped back and got up from the bed. “Bastard…” I muttered, frowning as I went to the bathroom to wash my face, only to see that I was already wearing my nightdress.
Shock was evident in my face. Did Lucretius change my clothing last night? I only remembered him removing the hair ornaments. I must be jaded so badly that I didn’t feel him undressing and changing my clothes.
His laughter echoed throughout his chamber, causing me to snap back to reality. I just rolled my eyes, and I couldn’t believe that nothing happened between us last night. He must have really considered my condition, as I was so tired from the party
How considerate of him….
Theard the bed creak and his footsteps going inside the bathroom. I stepped aside to let him use the sink since I had finished freshening up and was about to leave, but Lucretius blocked my path by pressing his arm against the wall.
“Where do you think you’re going?”
I slowly turned my head, meeting that annoying smirk plastered on Lucretius‘ lips. I noticed the dampness in his hair, which already told me he had already washed his face… or perhaps he just wanted an excuse to cornet me.
“F–For breakfast,” I replied flatly, crossing my arms. But deep inside, I knew that my bravery would soon crumble, knowing that it was just the two of us here. “Unlike you, I don’t plan on skipping meals.”
Good, Euphyllia. Good. I praised myself. I managed to mask the nervousness I felt at this moment. Surely, I could extend being stubborn unless he used our contract against me,
He tilted his head, eyes gleaming with mischief. “Breakfast can wait.”

“Wait?” I frowned. “You’re the one who told me to rest, not starve.” Please! Let me go! I silently screamed to myself.
I already knew what was going to happen next. And I was afraid that I would give in if I let him.
He leaned closer until I could feel the warmth of his breath brushing against my temple. “I also told you we’d talk tomorrow,” he uttered. “It’s tomorrow now, isn’t it?”
I instinctively clenched my hands. I could feel my sensitive bud pulsating at the closeness of our bodies together.
Oh, damn it! I could feel the excitement and anticipation brewing inside me!
I swallowed. “Talk? In the bathroom?” I looked at him as if another head had popped out of him.
A low chuckle blurted out from him. “No, in the bath.”
My eyes widened. “What in the—”
Before I could protest, he pushed away from the wall and walked toward the marble tub at the far end of the bathroom. Steam was already rising from it with a scent of lavender and sandalwood.
He glanced back at me, unbuttoning his remaining tunic. “Come, wifey. You look like you could use something to help you relax.

I held my breath. I knew it! I knew he had a hidden agenda! And there was no way I could be able to refuse this…
Because the bath was inviting me!
“W–We’ll be late for breakfast…” I reminded him, my eyes raking up and down to his sculpted, lean upper body. And his hands were already reaching for his torso.
He arched his eyebrow; his playful expression was all over his handsome face. “Let them wait. They’ve waited years to see me marry. Surely they can wait an hour longer to see us descend the stairs together. Don’t you think?”
“An hour?” I parroted in disbelief. At the same time, I felt a tingling sensation between my legs.
He smiled. That infuriating, meaningful smile was on his lips. Again. “Or more, depending on how long it takes you to join me.”
I almost cussed out of nowhere, glaring at him. This bastard… I couldn’t escape him. And it looked like he had seen through me, knowing how he was smiling from ear to ear.
Goddamn it! I hated this man who could easily read me.
And I felt like my face was as bright as a tomato upon seeing his manhood saluting already, which made me gulp at how huge he
was.
How on earth did I manage to take him whole?
He dipped into the water first, exhaling from the heat touching his skin. “Euphyllia,” he called, his voice was raspy. “Do you intend to stand there and watch me bathe?”
I bit my lower lip, hating that teasing tone from him. “You’re insufferable…” I swear… This man… He would be the death of me…
“I’ll take that as a yes.”
I threw him a sharp glare. If looks could kill, I could have wished he had died right then. But he only laughed at my reaction, looking so pleased that he annoyed the hell out of me.
Over and over.
Yet despite the inner protest, I found myself stepping closer to the edge of the tub. Lucretius watched me intently as I pulled down the strings of my nightdress, letting the fabric drop to the floor.
