Chapter 110 A Bed for Three

“If you’re worried…” Matthew paused slightly, “I can sleep on the floor. Safety comes first.”

What a considerate, selfless thing to say.

Zachary was genuinely persuaded. He looked at Matthew, moved, and said sincerely, “Thank you, Matthew. But the bed’s big enough for all three of us.”

“Mm.” But in the next second, Matthew caught on. His brow tightened ever so slightly. “Three?”

“Yeah.” Zachary nodded. To him, this was the best solution.

With Jaden there, things wouldn’t feel so awkward–and it would prevent any unexpected situations.

Matthew’s gaze flicked toward the doorway, where Jaden was busy washing pots and dishes. His relaxed fingers curled just a little.

“What is it?”

“Nothing,” Matthew said evenly. “Whatever you think is best.”

With his back to them, Jaden looked like he was focused on scrubbing, but his ears had long since perked up. He’d caught every single word between his Sire and his Alpha.

Tonight, he got to sleep with his warm, good–smelling Sire again.

Sure, the Alpha would be there too–but that was fine. His Sire would definitely hold him like before, pat his back, maybe even tell him a new story.

His mood, which had sunk earlier, shot right back up. Jaden scrubbed faster, even humming the tune Zachary had taught them–Two Tigers.

When Zachary came over to ask his opinion, he nodded eagerly. “I’m good with anything.”

Matthew glanced at the cub. “Then go sleep at Yael’s place. You can stay with Taylor.”

“I don’t like sleeping at other people’s houses.”

“You didn’t seem to mind before.”

“That was before.”

“And now you do?”

Jaden was convinced the Alpha

was picking on him.

The bond they’d once shared–father and son against the world–felt like it was

on the verge of collapse.

Zachary, meanwhile, found the whole thing amusing. They usually didn’t talk much, but now they were actually joking with each other.

Their expressions were a little serious–but that suited them.

Jaden sped up, finished the dishes, wiped his hands clean, and ran to Zachary’s side, helping here and there.

As long as he was close to his Sire, he was happy.

The stone bed Zachary used was indeed large. No one knew how Matthew had managed to move it in. Covered with thick layers of dry grass and beast hide, it was incredibly comfortable.

Two big, one small–three pillows lined up neatly.

Jaden placed his in the middle, Zachary’s on the inside, and Matthew’s on the outside.

Perfect.

The cub’s lips curled slightly, already looking forward to bedtime.

Matthew usually slept shirtless, but tonight, for once, he wore a top. The wide neckline hung loose, like an old tank–barely covering what it was supposed to.

That evening, both Matthew and Jaden washed up early and went into the cave.

Zachary ended up being the last one in.

When he walked in, he saw the father and son roughhousing.

Jaden, who had originally been in the middle, was now pushed to the outer edge of the bed. The cub was using all his strength, repeatedly trying to ram Matthew away with his head.

But against that solid, unmoving wall of a man, he didn’t stand a chance.

After several attempts, Matthew didn’t budge at all. He even propped his head on one hand, amused mockery.

Jaden sat there, face tight with frustration, glaring at the Alpha.

That was his spot. He’d even arranged the pillows.

Their bed back then had just been layers of dry grass and beast hide laid on the ground. Falling onto the cold, uneven stone still hurt.

So later, Matthew had made him sleep on the inside.

Zachary was about to say he slept pretty still–but then he remembered his nighttime wandering and just smiled without saying anything.

Matthew shot Jaden a glance, then shifted outward a little.

Zachary climbed onto the inside. “Matthew, move out a bit more.”

Matthew thought Zachary just needed more space, so he shifted even farther out.

Then he watched as Zachary beckoned to Jaden. The cub scrambled up, hugging his little pillow, and squeezed right between the two of them.

Matthew was speechless.

Watching Jaden burrow into Zachary’s arms, Matthew had a strong urge to kick the kid straight off the bed.

Especially when the little brat even tried to shove him farther out with his backside.

But with Zachary there, Matthew didn’t make a move.

He just watched coldly as Jaden clung to Zachary’s arm–getting his head gently stroked, and his back softly parted.
