Chapter 157 I Need a Kiss

The sub–therians were clearly treated far better than the full therians. At the very least, they were allowed to get/close enough to greet Zachary, and those who were familiar with him even reached out to give him a light pat.

“He’s gorgeous!”

“Tell me about it. He looks like he’s glowing in the sunlight.”

“No wonder he’s so striking in human form–his beast form is an absolutely stunning lynx.”

Zachary got so flustered from all the compliments that he ducked straight behind Matthew, pressing his face into Matthew’s palm and even giving his fingers a light, playful nibble.

Matthew clearly enjoyed it. He slipped both hands behind his back and let Zachary chew and fuss over him however he pleased.

Quincy and Elias arrived together. From a distance, they could already hear people talking about something being unbelievably gorgeous, and Zachary’s name kept coming up in the chatter.

That got them moving faster.

The moment Zachary noticed them, he immediately slipped out from behind Matthew and trotted over.

Once again, Matthew was left watching his mate make a very firm and decisive exit.

Quincy had seen Zachary’s beast form before, but it had been ages. Still, the second he saw the lynx, he called out instinctively, “Zachary?”

“Meow.” The lynx happily rubbed against Quincy’s leg.

Quincy’s expression softened instantly. He crouched down and gently patted the lynx’s head. “You’re seriously adorable, Zachary.”

“Zachary? Oh my goodness!” Elias‘ eyes went wide, shock practically lighting them up.

He dropped straight down to his knees, cupping the lynx’s face in both hands while rambling nonstop. “No way, Zachary, you really transformed! You’re insanely pretty! You’re way too adorable!”

“Come here, I need a kiss!” Elias laughed, showering the lynx’s head with enthusiastic kisses. Not satisfied, he even scooped Zachary up and gave him an excited little shake side to side.

Zachary’s tail, a bit longer and fluffier than a normal lynx’s, swayed freely behind him.

Instinctively overwhelmed with affection, he started licking both Quincy and Elias on the face.

Matthew walked over without a word, grabbed the lynx around the waist, and turned to leave.

“Meow?” Worried about being dropped, Zachary quickly wrapped his paws around Matthew’s shoulder and stared at him in confusion.

Matthew replied flatly, “You’re not allowed to lick other people.”

Flushed

“Come on, you’re so possessive! It’s not like I’m going to steal him,” Elias complained, folding his arms and stomping a foot. Then he let out a long sigh. “I really wish I were a therian…”

Once everyone saw how full the fish traps were, their confidence shot up instantly. People immediately started talking about going back to make even more.

Since both the fish traps and the pit traps had come from Zachary’s ideas, the chief let him pick his share of the food first, and no one objected.

Cats were naturally clean animals, and as a lynx, Zachary was even more particular. His silver–gray fur also made any bit of dirt stand out immediately, unlike Matthew’s darker coat.

Standing at the edge of the divided meat, Zachary looked up at Matthew and gave a soft “Meow,” pointing with his paw.

Matthew picked up the piece he indicated. “This one?”

The lynx nodded.

Together, they selected a portion of meat along with a basket of fish.

Meanwhile, Taylor and Jaden had spent the morning gathering firewood with the other kids. After that, they went deeper into the mountains to collect chestnuts. By afternoon, they finally got to play–throwing snowballs and building snowmen.

The snowball fight turned into chaos in the best way. The kids ran around laughing, finally burning off all their extra energy.

Later, someone mentioned that food distribution had started, and everyone immediately rushed over.

By the time they arrived, it was already over. The chief and Donald were busy counting the newly delivered fish traps from the sub–therians and discussing where to set new pit traps.

As one of the main hunters, Matthew was naturally included in the discussion.

Zachary didn’t feel like going home alone, so he stretched out lazily on a nearby rock, squinting in the sunlight while waiting for Matthew to finish up.

Jaden immediately spotted Matthew. He glanced around for Zachary but didn’t see him anywhere, assuming Zachary had stayed back at home because of the cold.

Then Taylor suddenly tugged on his sleeve, eyes wide with excitement. “Jaden, look at that!”

“What?” Jaden followed the direction he pointed–and spotted a lynx resting with its head on its paws.

He recognized Zachary’s beast form right away. Walking closer, he hesitated for a second before lightly reaching out a hand. “Sire?”

“Awoo!” The lynx lifted its head the moment it saw Jaden, a clear smile showing in its expression.

Taylor blinked hard, rubbing his eyes like he couldn’t believe it. “Zachary? Is it really you?”

Zachary gave a small nod. “Awoo!”

“Whoa!” Taylor’s eyes lit up. He bounced slightly on his feet, hands fluttering in pure excitement.

Leaning against the rock, he carefully touched the lynx’s fluffy paw. “This is unreal…”

Zachary found his reaction amusing. He gently caught Taylor’s little hand between both paws and gave it a light shake. “Meow!”

Taylor was so hyped he could barely form words, everything coming out as scattered “wow“.

Jaden stood nearby, outwardly calm, though a closer look revealed faint, star–like sparks flickering in his ice blue eyes.

Sensing Jaden’s hesitation, Zachary leaned forward and gently pressed his fluffy head against the boy’s cheek.
