Chapter 18 A Different Zachary
The therians didn’t quite believe the two cubs‘ words. After all, Zachary’s past behavior had left too many examples to the contrary. Others aside, Yael, who was closest to Matthew, had witnessed plenty of the trouble his friends had gone through.
“Quincy.” Yael walked over quickly. His expression remained relaxed and carefree, but his hand quietly pulled his mate to his side.
“What’s wrong?” Quincy looked at him in confusion.
“I just missed you,” Yael said casually. Then, he turned to meet Zachary’s gaze and pretended to be surprised. “Zachary, you are here too.”
Zachary looked at the therian in front of him and then at Quincy, roughly guessing the relationship between them.
Noticing his reaction, Quincy introduced, “This is Yael, my partner.”
Zachary smiled politely and nodded.
He felt that the duo suited each other quite well–one gentle and reserved, while the other carried a casual, untamed air.
Although Yael had already heard from the two cubs about Zachary falling into the water, he was still somewhat surprised. After all, Zachary was still clearly the same person, yet he felt that Zachary felt strangely much gentler. Moreover, this was the first time he even smiled.
Yael shook his head and quickly shot Matthew a look. “Hey, come over here quickly! Something is weird with
your mate!”
As if sensing something, Zachary turned to look over his shoulder. Then, he spotted a tall therian with black hair and golden eyes striding toward him.
As the handsome therian drew closer and closer, Zachary inexplicably felt nervous.
Matthew’s expression was calm, but his deep eyes were fixed directly on Zachary.
Zachary met his gaze briefly before lowering his voice and asking Elias beside him, “Who is he?”
Elias answered thoroughly, “He is Matthew. Your mate and Jaden’s father.”
In that split second, the curiosity on Zachary’s face froze instantly. Shock, guilt, nervousness, awkwardness… A whole whirlwind of emotions spun through his mind.
Then, Zachary forced a smile, trying to look natural as he greeted Matthew.
“Y–you’re back.”
Yael leaned forward in surprise. “Did he really forget everything?”
Quincy reached out and tugged at Yael.

Matthew frowned and looked at Zachary suspiciously. Then, he said in a low voice, “What are you planning to do this time?”
“Huh?” Zachary looked innocent. “I’m not doing anything.”
Seeing this, Quincy couldn’t help but speak up for him. “Matthew, Zachary really doesn’t remember anything.”
Jaden and Taylor ran over at that moment and immediately jumped in to testify.
Matthew looked Zachary up and down before asking, “What did the shaman say?”
At that moment, Zachary finally understood from whom Jaden had inherited his personality. Matthew and Jaden were practically identical.
“I’m fine,” he replied. “It’ll get better after a while. There’s no need to trouble the shaman.”
Matthew simply gave a hum in
response.
Anyone watching would never think these two were mates.
In the meantime, Yael slung an arm around Matthew’s shoulders and said, “If he doesn’t remember the past, then just let it be. Isn’t this a good thing too?”
However, Matthew’s expression remained tense.
Just then, a sub–therian walked over from the opposite direction. He passed right by Zachary and stopped directly in front of Matthew.
Corey’s eyes curved with a smile, and his voice was gentle as he said, “Matthew, you were amazing!”

While Zachary was in thought, Matthew stepped back a few steps, creating distance between himself and Corey.

he replied, “We were just lucky this time.”
However, Corey didn’t seem to notice the gesture and asked with concern, “Did you get hurt?”
Elias couldn’t take it anymore and nudged Zachary with his elbow, silently asking Zachary if he was really going to tolerate this behavior from Corey.
Quincy also frowned, hesitating as if he wanted to say something.
However, Zachary was no pushover.
Even though he wasn’t familiar with Matthew yet, the man was still the father of his child. Besides, Zachary knew this kind of storyline all too well.
Thus, he walked to Matthew’s side, cleared his throat, and looked at Corey with a smile that didn’t quite

“Who do you think you are? He has a mate and a child. Since when is it your place to worry about him?” Hearing Zachary’s words, Matthew suddenly turned his head. A flicker of surprise flashed through his eyes.
Before Corey could respond, Zachary continued, “If you have nothing else to do, you should care about other therians.”
Corey’s expression immediately stiffened, though he tried to maintain his gentle smile and retorted, “Can you even take care of Matthew?”
Zachary smiled slightly and replied, “Of course. I’m very good at taking care of people. If you don’t believe me, feel free to come to my house and see exactly how I take care of him.”
Hearing his words, Corey was furious as he clenched the hem of his fur clothing with his fist. Grinding his teeth, he said, “There’s no need for that.”
Elias struggled to suppress his laughter and shot Zachary an approving look. Quincy’s expression also relaxed a little.
Zachary raised his eyebrows at them before looking back at Corey and asking, “Do you have anything else to say?”
Corey glared at him in return before turning and leaving.
After Corey left, Yael finally burst out laughing. “Finally! Someone who can deal with Corey!”
“Keep your voice down,” Quincy reminded him when he noticed the glances from around them.
Elias was beaming with happiness. “Seriously, Zachary. I never knew you to be this impressive.”
