He jabbed Matthew several times with his elbow. “If you don’t want this relationship anymore, then say iy clearly.”

Matthew immediately shook his head. “I do. Of course I do.”

Zachary snapped, “Being strong doesn’t give you permission to wreck your own body!”

“I’m not wrecking it.” Matthew rubbed his back gently, coaxing him as if he were calming an angry little cat. “It won’t hurt me if I don’t take too much.”

Zachary shot back, “Great. Then I’ll go ask Mr. Bruce for a bowl too.”

Matthew’s face tightened. “Absolutely not.”

Zachary glared at him. “Didn’t you just say it was harmless?”

“I..” Matthew paused. “Your body isn’t the same as mine.”

That only made Zachary angrier. The medical treatment here was already so rough. If something went wrong, what then?

Every medicine carried risk. Even ordinary cold medicine could damage the body if taken wrong.

Why can’t Matthew have talked to me first so we could find another solution? If nothing else works, we can simply stop. There is no need to gamble with his health!

Out loud, Zachary asked, “If I hadn’t overheard you today, were you going to hide this from me forever?”

Matthew said nothing.

“I… Don’t be angry…” Matthew hugged him even tighter. “I know I was wrong.”

“Let go.” Zachary was so furious his temples were starting to ache.

Matthew did not move.

Zachary bit down hard on his shoulder.

Matthew did not even react. Instead, he tilted his neck toward him. “Bite here. It’s easier.”

Zachary went silent.

“Or somewhere else?” Seeing Zachary say nothing, Matthew kept trying to please him. “My chest?”

Zachary said icily, “Fine. Keep drinking your poison, then. When you’ve ruined yourself, I’ll take Jaden and leave.

“I’ll find a merman. Maybe you’ll still see me whenever you go trade for salt. Or a white tiger therian. The one from the other day seemed decent, and his tribe isn’t far. If you miss Jaden, you can come visit. Then you can stay here in this cave alone…”

Once Zachary started, he practically planned out the entire separation in a matter of minutes.

“No!” Matthew’s expression grew darker with every word. Just imagining that future made anger pound hard inside his chest.

Zachary said coldly, “If you’re allowed to drink poison, why should you care what I do? You promised you’d stay with me forever. You said you’d protect me, hunt for me, and pick fruit for me.

“But you secretly took poison behind my back. If your body breaks down one day, how are you going to protect me? How are you going to hunt? You’re the one who broke your promise first!”

“It’s not…” When it came to arguing, Matthew, who was already quiet by nature, had no chance against Zachary.

Watching Zachary fire one sentence after another, Matthew grew so flustered that even his face began to redden. In the end, he could only pull him close and kiss him to stop the flood of words.

“Mmph…” Zachary bit him, but Matthew refused to pull away, clinging on with stubborn desperation. As he kissed him, he drew Zachary back toward the bed.

But Matthew did not dare push further. He only wanted Zachary to settle down and stop being so upset.

Matthew had once asked Zachary what “baby” meant, and Zachary had told him it was a word filled with love and affection. Now, desperate to coax him, Matthew blurted it out without thinking.

Zachary froze. “You…”

Seeing that reaction, Matthew tested the word again carefully. “Baby?”

Zachary sat cross–legged on the bed and said with a serious face, “I know what you’re afraid of. And you know what I’m afraid of too.

“So there’s one solution that protects both sides,” Zachary said clearly. “Separate beds. From now on, we’re doing a purely platonic relationship.”

Matthew looked blank. “Platonic relationship? What’s that?”

For one moment, Zachary seriously wanted to launch a basic education program. Unfortunately, the task was too enormous, and survival still came first. He would have to save that for later.

“It means you and I are not sleeping together anymore.”

To Matthew, the words landed like thunder from a clear sky. “No. I don’t agree.”

Determined to settle every old and new debt at once, Zachary said coldly, “Then what? Are you planning to drug me again?”
