Donald brought the water to Bruce’s lips. He stayed bent over and kept his eyes fixed on Bruce’s face.
The moment their eyes met, Bruce quickly looked away.

He had even lost his appetite. His once chubby little face had shimmed down a little.
Now that the weather was freezing and heavy snow was falling, no one could go out. Everyone stayed tucked inside their caves, doing little but eating and sleeping all day.
At that moment. Yael was staring at the flickering fire, thinking about what to have for dinner.
Matthew arrived with a small basin of wild berry ribs, looking almost like a god descending from the heavens. Before he even reached the door, Yael caught the smell and sprang to his feet.
Matthew had only raised his hand halfway to knock when the door opened with a crack, revealing Yael’s eager face.
He stared straight at the basket giving off that rich aroma. “What good stuff did you bring?”
“Wild berry ribs made by Zachary.”
Yael ushered him in with great enthusiasm. “You must be tired. Come in and sit down for a while.”
Taylor came closer. “Wow, it smells so good!”
Sweet and tangy food made people’s mouths water very easily. Yael picked up his eating sticks, already eager to dig in.
Quincy asked how Jaden was doing. Once he heard the cub was fine, the worry that had been hanging over him finally settled.
Matthew took back his family’s basket, then pulled out a package of chestnut rice cakes and handed it to

Matthew didn’t stay at Yael’s place for long. He still had to go back and accompany Zachary to Bruce’s place.
A few days ago, Zachary had traded for some tanned cowhide. After measuring and marking it, he used a bone knife to cut it into the shape of a cloak, then sewed cords onto the collar. It was very convenient to wear outside for protection from the wind and rain.
Matthew was tall and broad. In the vast snow, the hem of his cloak lifted in the wind, giving him an unexpectedly mysterious air.
When Yael and the others saw it for the first time, they worked together to keep the cloak clasp on Matthew. Then they took turns trying it on, each of them terribly envious.
After they went back, they started trading everywhere for moo beast hides. Then they went to Zachary’s place as a group to learn how to make cloaks.
Later, almost the entire tribe fell into the cloak trend. When everyone went out together, the sight was truly impressive.

There was a strange sense of mystery to it.

Zachary placed the dishes into the basket one by one, then covered them with a piece of beast–hide and wrapped everything tightly.
Matthew walked in. “It’s too cold outside. I’ll go by myself”
Zachary had already dressed properly. He shook his head and took Matthew’s arm. “Let’s go.
The snow wasn’t melting fast enough to keep up with the snowfall, so the road was hard to walk on. Matthew simply carried Zachary on his back and headed toward Mr. Bruce’s place step by step.
Zachary leaned forward. “Are you tired?”
Matthew didn’t answer the question. “Kiss me.”
There was no one around, so Zachary gave him a loud kiss.
If he hadn’t been worried about spilling the food in the basket, Matthew could have run all the way there just to prove he wasn’t tired at all.
It was still hard for Bruce to walk around. If he pulled at his wound even slightly, the pain made him frown hard and turn pale. Because of that, Donald carried him wherever he wanted to go.
Even when Bruce had to use the bathroom, Donald stayed close because he was afraid Bruce might lose his balance and fall. He practically never left Bruce’s side, and he even helped pull up his pants.
Bruce was calm by nature, but even he felt a little embarrassed by this. Yet Donald acted perfectly normal. which only confused him more.
Bruce really couldn’t figure out what Donald meant by all this.
Leaning against the headboard, Bruce stared steadily at Donald.
Donald asked, “What’s wrong?”
said, “Come here.”
