To get rid of this group of annoying pests, Matthew tried to scare them off with force. But Yael and the others were willing to take a beating just to get one bite. Left with no choice, Matthew gave them one flatbread and let the bandits split it among themselves.
Late at night, Zachary turned over in bed. He wasn’t sleeping well. The fire in the cave was burning strong, out whenever he thought of Matthew freezing outside in the snow and ice, he couldn’t stop worrying about him.
Jaden remembered what his Alpha had told him. He had to protect his Sire well. So the cub took the outer side of the bed on his own. If anything happened, he could spring up at once.
The next morning, they still found nothing after searching all morning. Henry decided to lead everyone to dig up hibernating snakes.
Using their experience, they searched for a long time before finally stopping beneath a tree on a slope.
After they dug through the thick layer of snow, then the damp soil mixed with dead branches and loose dirt near the surface, they saw the snakes underground, tangled and coiled around one another.
There were many of them, but because they had slept through most of the cold season, they had burned through a lot of fat and were not very plump. Still, it was a harvest.
Matthew’s gaze then shifted to the mountainside. There was a crack between the rocks there. It was hidden well, and it offered good protection from the cold.
He slowly climbed along the mountain. When he was about to reach the crack, Matthew lowered his back, slowed his steps, and approached with great caution.
Inside the crack was a cave, and a black bear was hibernating inside. In this state, though, it was extremely
aggressive.
Matthew told Henry and the others what he had found.

The space inside the cave could only fit one black panther at a time. But an irritated black bear was not something to underestimate. On top of that, the cave was halfway up a steep slope. One careless move could send someone tumbling down, and that would not be worth the risk.
In short, it was very dangerous.
Ryker thought it wouldn’t work. In the past, some therians had died at the claws of black bears. Besides, the snake den they had found today was huge enough to feed them for a while.
Matthew said, “I’ll lure the black bear out.”
Yael nudged him with his head. “Let’s look somewhere else. This is too dangerous.”

“I can do it. You wait below and block its escape.” After Matthew explained his plan, he climbed the stone wall again.
Yael followed him up.
The moment Matthew stepped into the cave, the black bear woke almost instantly. Its eyes filled with rage. With a roar, it charged viciously at the intruder.
The space was narrow, and the black panther had nowhere to dodge. He met the bear head–on, and the two immediately tore into each other.
Yael hooked his claws into the cracks in the stone, so anxious that his tail kept lashing. He stretched his neck as far as he could, ready to rush in at any moment.
The starving black bear was full of vicious energy. Even though the black panther had been careful enough, he still took several claw strikes. As soon as the bear smelled blood, it grew even more excited.
But Matthew was determined to take it down. He waited for the right moment, slowly moved toward the cave entrance, and pretended to leave an opening by exposing his neck to the black bear.
The black bear gathered all its strength and lunged. The black panther dodged aside at once, then slammed into it hard and knocked it straight out of the cave entrance.
With a scream, a black mass rolled down the stone wall at a terrifying speed.
The black panthers waiting below rushed in at once and cut off the black bear’s retreat.
Yael hurried into the cave. “Are you okay?”
The black panther lay on the ground, panting heavily. “Tired.”
‘Can you still hold on?” Yael smelled blood and quickly licked his wounds for him.
‘Mm.” Matthew rested for a moment before standing up from the ground. “Let’s go.”
The fight on the ground was intense too. The injured black bear threw itself around wildly, biting and clawing at anything near it. Kyle and the others had taken quite à few hits too. But there were many black panthers, and after a while, the black bear collapsed to the ground and stopped breathing.
Ryker sprinkled the medicine they had brought onto Matthew’s wounds. He couldn’t understand why Matthew had pushed himself so hard.
The black panther gritted his teeth and said nothing.
“I’ll carry you back.” Yael flicked Matthew with his tail. “Don’t walk anymore. Your wounds look scary.”
“I’m fine.” Matthew shook his head.
As soon as the black panthers returned from the hunt and entered the tribe, they learned that beasts had
attacked.
The fierce harpy eagles couldn’t catch prey during the cold season, so they had turned their attention to the therian tribe. They had silently perched on nearby trees and circled overhead for several days, all to

wait for the right moment.
The sub–therians and cus living at the edge of the tribe were their best targets.

The feathers of these harpy eagles were grayish white, almost blending completely into the falling snow. When one dove down, it moved extremely fast. By the time its prey reacted, its long, sharp claws were already right in front of them.
Taylor and Jaden were carrying firewood and slowly making their way toward the cave entrance, each step sinking into the snow. Zachary smiled and shook the pastry in his hand. Before he could say anything, the blood in his body suddenly ran cold.
Just as the harpy eagle was about to succeed, a black panther pounced over in an instant. A deafening roar rang through the entire tribe.
The therians shifted into beast form one after another and rushed in that direction.
