Chapter 213 You’re All I Have Left
“There’s enough food at home. Can you stop going out to hunt?”
“We can eat less. We can make it through.”
Zachary suddenly stared at Matthew’s face and said it very seriously.
“Please don’t go anymore, okay?”
The scene of Jaden and Taylor almost being taken yesterday was still vivid in his mind. And today, Matthew had come back covered in wounds.
As a modern person, Zachary found this world far more dangerous than he had ever imagined.

“We just need to hold out a little longer. Once spring comes, we’ll plant crops and raise the prey animals in pens…”
Zachary thought farming was a very good idea. At the very least, it was safe, and it could last for a long time. Besides, therians were strong and worked fast.
Matthew listened to all the strange words coming from Zachary’s mouth and felt that his mate was becoming more and more amazing. Before he knew it, he said, “Okay. I’ll listen to you.”
As Zachary talked, Matthew listened quietly.
After a long while, Zachary had nearly connected everything into the entire history of human civilization.
In Matthew’s eyes, Zachary seemed to glow.
Zachary stared at the focused look on Matthew’s face beneath the loose strands of hair on his forehead. Then he suddenly said, “I’m sorry.”
Matthew asked, “Why are you apologizing?”
Zachary didn’t say anything.
Matthew kissed his fingertips and looked into his eyes. “Today was my fault. I should be the one apologizing.”
Zachary rested his forehead against Matthew’s. Their breaths mingled as he said, “Things will slowly get better from now on.”
“Mm.”
After that tender moment lasted for a while, Zachary suddenly said, “The soup is going to get cold.”
Matthew let go reluctantly. “Mm. You should drink some too.”
“I’m not hungry.”
“Drink a little with me.”

The soup had originally been warmed for Matthew, but after being coaxed and fed, Zachary ended up drinking more than half a bowl.
“The wounds on your body can’t touch water.” While they were washing up, Zachary took the beast–hide towel from Matthew’s hand. Little by little, he carefully wiped Matthew down while avoiding the wounds.
Matthew stood there and suddenly felt some regret. He shouldn’t have taken the risk of hunting that black
bear.
Although Zachary didn’t say it, Matthew could still tell that his mood was very low.
A moment later, the sound of water gradually faded. Zachary straightened up and hung the towel on the rack. “Let’s sleep.”
When the two returned to bed, Jaden woke up in a daze. After calling out “Alpha,” he was pulled back into sleep again.
Afraid of pressing against Matthew’s wounds, Zachary held Jaden and almost pressed himself against the stone wall, leaving two–thirds of the bed to Matthew.
Matthew felt very unused to it, especially with his arms empty. He tried to move inward so he could get closer to his mate.
In the dim firelight, Zachary’s eyes were still visibly red from crying. He said softly, “Don’t make me worry about you.”
Matthew sighed and miserably moved back again.
After Matthew closed his eyes and his breathing gradually steadied, Zachary quietly took his hand and gently stroked it.
A moment later, the large hand in his palm suddenly closed around his. Their fingers laced together and sank into the soft beast–hide.
Zachary had a dream.
In the dream, the huge cave was empty. Matthew and Jaden were both gone. He went qut to ask about them and search for them, but everyone in the tribe looked at him with complicated expressions, as if they wanted to speak but couldn’t.
Then he saw two grayish–brown stone grave markers standing silently in the white snow.
It turned out that Matthew and Jaden had already been gone for a long, long time…
The hand in Matthew’s palm suddenly trembled. He opened his eyes and saw Zachary frowning tightly, his face filled with fear and panic.
“Zachary, wake up.” Matthew shook his shoulder.
Jaden woke up too when he heard the movement. Still sleepy–eyed, he sat up as well. “Alpha, what happened?”

After Zachary woke up, he gasped for breath. It took a long time for his emotions to settle. The feeling of losing everything in the dream had been far too real. Even after he woke, that terrible fear still clung to
him.
Looking at the worried expressions on his mate and cub’s faces, Zachary held their hands tightly and murmured, “You’re all I have left…
Jaden didn’t know what had happened, but when he saw the look on his Sire’s face, he immediately stayed still like a good cub. He even shifted his position a little so Zachary could hold him more easily.
“Zachary, Jaden and I are right here.” Matthew stroked his chest, helping him calm his breathing.
After who knew how long, Zachary finally calmed down. He hadn’t slept at all the night before, and now he had another nightmare tonight. At this point, he was truly exhausted. Even when he opened his eyes, his mind felt hazy.
“Sleep, Zachary. Sleep…” Matthew held him, and Jaden patted his Sire too.
In his daze, Zachary answered softly. He held his mate’s and cub’s hands, then closed his eyes.
By the time daylight filled the cave, the sky was bright.
Zachary rubbed his temples. His head hurt, and his eyes felt dry and sore.
“Sire, you’re awake!” Jaden leaned closer. Zachary’s face was reflected in the cub’s ice–blue eyes.
Matthew was there too, staring at him without blinking,
Zachary was very surprised. After all, his morning schedule had never matched this father and son’s at all.
It was rare for all three of them to still be lying in bed together.
Matthew asked while putting on his clothes, “What do you want for breakfast?”
“Anything is fine.” After saying that, Zachary added, “You don’t need to make a lot.”
“Mm.” After Matthew got out of bed, he picked up his mate’s and cub’s clothes, crouched beside the fire inside the cave, and warmed them until they were nice and toasty.
