Then, Zachary suddenly remembered something. “But Donald and Mr. Bruce both call Laurent Sire!”
Matthew chuckled in a low voice. For once, he became unusually talkative and told Zachary about Donald and Bruce’s relationship.
After hearing it, Zachary felt deeply moved by everything they had been through. He was also touched that two people who loved each other had finally ended up together.
“Then, which one of them…” His voice suddenly grew much quieter.
Matthew said seriously, “I’ll ask for you tomorrow.”
“Don’t!” Zachary quickly stopped him.
The corner of Matthew’s mouth lifted, but his face remained as calm as ever. “From the sound of it, Mr. Bruce was crying.”
Zachary understood at once.
That made sense.
With Donald’s build, Bruce definitely couldn’t overpower him.
Matthew suddenly stopped talking. He licked his dry lips and stared at Zachary without blinking.
“Are you thirsty?” Zachary asked.
Matthew nodded.
“I’ll pour you some water.”
After hearing the gossip, Zachary was in a very good mood, and he turned to get a bowl.
“No need.” Matthew suddenly pulled Zachary into his arms and cupped his face. “You can wet them for
r
me.”
Jaden lay on the bed inside the cave and found it very strange. His Sire and Alpha still hadn’t come to bed.
Zachary was straddling Matthew face–to–face, leaning weakly against him as he panted in small breaths.
Matthew’s hand slipped under the hem of his clothes.
Zachary instantly straightened up. “Don’t touch me like that.”
Matthew agreed on the surface, but his hand showed no sign of stopping. Before long, it found its way to his favorite place with practiced ease.
“Uhh….” Zachary’s voice instantly changed.
He tried to call back the last bit of Matthew’s conscience. “Jaden is still… still waiting for us…”

Matthew’s Adam’s apple bobbed. “Let him sleep by himself.”
“You’re hurt.”
“It doesn’t matter.”
Zachary knew he couldn’t escape. His whole body tensed. “Not here, oh–not here…”
“Huh?” Matthew leaned close to his ear. “You want it here?”
Zachary bit his lip, terrified of making any sound. His eyes were red at the corners as he kept shaking his head.
“The outer robe is pretty loose.” Matthew kissed his eyes. “It’ll cover both of us.”
“N–No…” Zachary stared hard at the closed door of the cave, his heart jumping into his throat.
Matthew was afraid of pushing him too far, so he stopped while he still could. “Okay, we’ll leave.”
Still holding him in that position, Matthew lifted Zachary up.
Zachary’s back tightened into a curved line, and his whole body trembled even harder. Every step was torture for him, but Matthew seemed to be doing it on purpose.
He walked very slowly, and after entering the neighboring cave, he even circled around inside twice.
Zachary was nearly driven crazy by the torment.
Both of them were fully dressed. At first glance, they looked as if they were taking a flirtatious walk. With a closer look, it was obvious how wicked Matthew was being, though.
Jaden fell asleep while waiting.
Matthew and Zachary didn’t come over, even when dawn arrived.

The food at home gradually ran low. These days, when the therians went out to hunt, they almost always went straight for snake dens.
Matthew still moved through the silent forest, trying to hunt other animals.
However, by the later part of the cold season, almost all animals were lying low and enduring the hunger. Rather than risk their lives going out to search for food, they would rather starve.
When Matthew was lucky, he would run into one or two clucking beasts, but most of the time, he came back empty–handed.
Zachary didn’t want him going out.

After Matthew left again, Zachary dug through the snowdrift outside the cave and took out the frozen, rock–hard chunks of snake meat.
Rather than taking them, it was more like he was picking them up with tools.
Zachary used eating sticks to move the pieces–into a basin one by one. His hands never touched the snake meat at all, but even so, goosebumps stillrose all over his body.
However, there was no other meat left at home.
For the past two days, Matthew had gone out into the snow almost as soon as the sky began to brighten. When he came back, his hands and face were red from the cold.
Prey was hard to find.
Matthew didn’t say it, but Zachary knew.
Zachary divided the snake meat into two portions. He blanched one portion and stewed it with raisins and dried cranberries, then stir–fried the other portion directly.
For the first time, cooking felt like torture to him. It was clearly meat, but in Zachary’s eyes, it had turned into living snakes.
No matter how he cooked it, the shape of the bones was still there. Section by section, the pieces rolled in the pot as if they were wriggling.
After putting the lid on the pot, he finally let out a breath of relief.
By the time dusk was near, the meal was almost ready. He looked into the pot and gritted his teeth, trying to encourage himself.
Matthew has already been working so hard. Don’t be picky. It’s all meat. It’s the same. Everyone else is eating it too,
Just try it. Maybe you can accept it. Endure it, and it’ll be over. It’s fire.
If you eat this, Matthew won’t have to keep going out every day…
The memory of being wrapped up and nearly suffocated by that slick, massive snake suddenly jumped back into his mind.
Zachary’s eating sticks shook as he picked up a piece of snake meat. He took a deep breath, closed his eyes, gritted his teeth, and tried to put it into his mouth.
It’s fine. It’s fine!
With a soft plop, the snake meat finally fell to the ground.
Zachary suddenly crouched down. His fingertips turned white from gripping the eating sticks too hard.
He looked at that piece of meat in defeat and let out a long sigh. How can I be this pathetic?

After a while, his gaze shifted to the pot of stake soup.
He felt that he should take it step by step, so he ladled out a little clear broth.
