Zachary was still holding the cumin powder while taking a few sips straight from Matthew’s hand. Grinning, he asked, You added honey?

Yeah. Drink some more.As Matthew spoke, he used his thumb to wipe the water off his mate’s lips.

More and more therians crowded around them until the entire stall was completely packed. Some wanted to trade goods, some were just there to watch the excitement, and Zachary and Quincy plainly drew in

some.

Daniel and Ethan enthusiastically handled the introductions while Zachary and Quincy managed the trades. Taylor and Jaden wanted to help, too, but there were too many therians, so they ended up staying off to the side with Henry, keeping an eye on the traded items.

I wanna trade for this clay pot.”

I want two baskets.

What’s that powder?

What’s this tube thing?

You trading clothes too?

The place got louder and busier by the second.

With so many therians pushing around, things started getting a little chaotic. Quincy suddenly frowned and glanced toward his waist.

Zachary caught it immediately. What’s wrong?

Nothing.Quincy shook his head.

A moment later, his brows knitted even tighter. He turned sideways and slowly scanned the therians

around him.

Zachary’s expression darkened. What happened?

Quincy lowered his voice. I think someone touched me.”

Shock flashed across Zachary’s expression before his entire expression turned cold. His eyes swept over everyone nearby like he wanted to burn holes straight through them.

He pulled Quincy behind him, then turned and said something quietly to Matthew.

Very quickly, Yael planted himself beside Quincy with a terrifying look on his expression, guarding him like a mother hen protecting her chicks. His fists clenched so tightly they cracked.

Meanwhile, Matthew held a sharp bone knife the entire time, looking like he’d stab straight through anyone who stepped out of line.

The two of them were basically bodyguards at that point, sticking close without leaving Quincy for even a

second.

Taylor and Jaden got bored pretty fast. Squatting on the ground with their chins propped in their hands, they started playing fiveinarow with little sticks.

Suddenly, a shiny bald head popped into their line of sight. It was a vulture cub, around six or seven years old, staring curiously at the game drawn on the ground.

The cub was naturally friendly. The second he noticed Taylor and Jaden looking at him, he immediately introduced himself.

My name’s Little Baldy.

Little Baldy?Taylor’s eyes instantly locked onto the cub’s completely hairless head. Confused, he asked, Why’s your name that? Is it because your head’s all bald and shiny?

Uhmaybe.Little Baldy scratched his head awkwardly.

Taylor asked very seriously, But aren’t all of you bald? Do you really need to separate big and small baldies?

Because my Alpha’s called Big Baldy.

Taylor blinked. Huh?

His head’s huge.

Oh.

Listening to their completely serious conversation/Jaden suddenly found it ridiculously funny. Still, laughing out loud felt rude, so he pressed his lips together and held it in.

Little Baldy looked at them curiously. What are your names?

I’m Taylor. And that’s Jaden.Taylor slung an arm around Jaden’s shoulders, looking proud as hell. We’re best friends.

Can I play with you guys too?

Of course!

The second they finished setting up camp, Horace looked up and realized that troublemaker Hubert had vanished again.

He didn’t even need to think twice about where Hubert had run off to. Rolling up his sleeves, he stormed over to drag Hubert back.

Hubert squeezed through the crowd. He worked up the nerve for a good while before finally clearing his

throat. Zachary.

Matthew answered him with a cold, murderous glare.

Hubert looked at Zachary eagerly. Zachary, it’s me. Hubert. Do you remember me?

Zachary thought, Yeah, I don’t think anybody could forget him.

But a customer was still a customer. He pointed at the goods spread out on the ground. Looking to trade for something?

The moment Zachary responded, Hubert practically lit up with joy. His grin stretched wide, those little fangs flashing as he smiled.

Zachary crouched down and seriously introduced their products fo Hubert and the others.

Hubert crouched beside him, too, leaning forward slightly. Tiny glimmers flickered in his light violet eyes as he stared at Zachary with a dumb, lovestruck grin.

A bone knife, smooth as polished ivory, suddenly sliced past Hubert’s cheek, forcing him to lean back.

Matthew casually withdrew his hand, though the way he spun the knife in his palm grew bigger and bigger, like the blade might fly out any second.

Zachary asked, See anything you want?

Hubert’s gaze never shifted in the slightest. He just nodded repeatedly. Yeah. I want it.

The White Tiger tribe was famous far and wide, so Zachary had pretty high expectations for their goods.

He said, Mind if I take a look at what you brought?

Of course. Our tribe brought a ton of beast hides this time. What color do you like?Hubert invited eagerly, Or better yet, come pick them out with me?

Matthew’s expression turned cold. In an instant, the sharp tip of the bone knife pressed against Hubert’s throat. His low voice dripped with warning. Back the hell off.

Hubert didn’t panic at all. If anything, he stubbornly lifted his chin even higher, practically pressing himself into the blade.

The therians browsing the stall instantly fell silent and turned to look.

Hey, don’t scare off my customers! Zachary thought.

He quickly cupped both hands around Matthew’s tight grip on the knife handle and slowly lowered it. Then he smiled at the crowd. His hand slipped. It’s fine, really. Go ahead and keep looking around.

Matthew’s expression barely changed. He only tightened his grip around Zachary’s hand and refused to let

  1. go.
