Chapter 277 The Best Mate
Once Bruce was feeling better, Donald was just about to scold him when Bruce looked up with those attractive eyes, bright and glassy, slipped his arms around Donald’s neck, and leaned in for a kiss.
Donald instantly forgot what he was about to say,
Before long, his brain had gone completely blank, and he let Bruce do whatever he wanted.
In the end, Donald never stood a chance against him.
On the way home, a cub came sprinting down the road barefoot, glancing over his shoulder every few steps. An adult was chasing after him with what looked like a pretty thick stick in his hand.
The cub clearly knew he was about to get caught. He darted behind Zachary and Matthew for cover, then started circli

Zachary had originally been thinking about stepping in. Then, he heard the reason before concluding Never mind. Maybe the cub really deserves this.
Matthew noticed him staring at the sugarcane stalk and asked, “You want one of those?”
Zachary nodded, then immediately felt like this wasn’t the best time to ask. The two of them simply waited under a nearby tree instead.

Matthew glanced over. “Probably not.”
“Oh.”
The two of them simply squatted beneath the tree and started a game of five–in–a–row.
Sure enough, the howling started up again before long.
The cub slipped through every opening he could find and bolted the second he got the chance, dodging plenty of swings along the way. In the chaos, the sub–therian accidentally smacked himself a few times. which only made him even madder.
After a while, Zachary rubbed his ear. “Maybe… we should stop this. The sun’s about to set
Matthew nodded and walked over with him.
After giving the cub a solid beating, the sub–therian had already worked off about half his anger. He looked noticeably more relaxed. When he saw the cub hiding behind Zachary again, he didn’t bother chasing after him anymore.
Matthew hadn’t forgotten why they came over.
He pointed at the “stick” in the sub–therian’s hand and asked where it had come from.
“Oh, this?” The sub–therian looked down at it. “The Golden Monkey Tribe brought it over. I didn’t have anything to hit the cub with, so somebody standing nearby handed me one. Gotta admit, though—it works surprisingly well.”
Zachary asked, “Can I trade something for it?”
“You’re going to hit a cub too?” the sub–therian asked, surprised. “Jaden is so well–behaved. Does he still get punished?”
“N–No.” Zachary quickly waved his hands to explain. “I just mean it can be eaten. I want to take it back and study it.”
“Ah, I see,” the sub–therian replied with a smile. “Just take it. Tomorrow, you can head straight to the market. The Golden Monkey Tribe therians should still be there.”
After taking the sugarcane, Zachary kept thanking him over and over.
The cub saw the sub–therian’s hands were empty and finally let out a breath of relief. He slowly edged out from behind Zachary
However, things did not go the way he expected.
The next second, Matthew handed over a long, straight branch. He had even thoughtfully peeled off the bark. It was smooth and slippery, and it would sting hard when used.
He said to the sub–therian, “Use this first.”
The cub immediately shrank back again and let out a disbelieving yell.
The sub–therian weighed the branch in his hand. It was much lighter. He swung it twice, and the cub

instantly tried to run.
However, Matthew grabbed the cub by the back of the neck and politely sent it back to the adult.
On the way home, Zachary couldn’t help but laugh. “Why are you still scaring the cub?”
“He broke the rules.” Matthew thought about his own group of quacking beasts. “I put myself in his place. It really does make me angry.”
Zachary was curious. “Did Jaden ever get hit when he was a kid?”
Matthew thought about it for a moment. “I don’t think so.”
Zachary complimented him. “You really are a good Alpha.”
Matthew held his hand. “You’re a good Sire too.”
Zachary laughed. “Jaden hasn’t even reacted yet, and we’re already here praising each other.”
Matthew understood his cub very well. “In his heart, you’re the best Sire.”
Zachary leaned against him and lifted his face. “Then in my heart, you’re the best mate. The best, best mate in the world.”
Those simple, honest words caught Matthew off guard. He stopped walking. In the warm glow of the sunset, he looked into his mate’s eyes and kissed him.
Early the next morning, Zachary went to the market with Matthew. They indeed saw stacks of sugarcane brought by the Golden Monkey Tribe.
Last night, Zachary had already tried the purple–skinned sugarcane. It was very sweet and juicy, with a high sugar content.
Plants like this could not really fill one’s stomach.
For the therians of Beastworld, they were not very valuable. After all, real food mattered most.
