Chapter 283 The Best Medicine
“Oh, right. I don’t think the moo beast’s been fed yet.”
Matthew stared at the faint outline of Zachary’s waist beneath the water. His throat bobbed. I’ll wash you
It wasn’t a suggestion. It was a statement.
As he spoke, he crouched beside the tub and reached for the beast hide cloth nearby. One large, lean hand settled gently on Zachary’s shoulder. He wiped him down with painstaking care, as if handling something priceless, moving slowly and deliberately from top to bottom, inch by inch, until the cloth disappeared beneath the water.
“Turn around, Matthew said.
“Okay.” Zachary narrowed his eyes contentedly. His back rested against the edge of the tub while his head tipped back slightly, exposing the elegant curve of his slender neck.
Matthew’s hand stilled. Then he leaned down and bit his neck.
Feline beasts loved biting necks, whether it was prey or a mate,
Zachary ran a hand through his hair and chuckled softly. “If you’re trying to leave a mark, you’ll have to bite harder than that?
Matthew straightened and looked into his eyes. Then he shook his head, “It’ll hurt.”
Zachary brushed his fingers over the faint ring of teeth marks on his neck and indulged him. “Then later, I’ll give you a few of my own”
Matthew asked, “Anywhere?”
“Mm–hmmm.” Smiling, Zachary turned his head and met his gaze. “Anywhere you want.”
A spark of anticipation flickered in Matthew’s golden eyes.
He moved closer and lowered his head, silently asking for a kiss. Zachary gave him one, long and lingering.
But once it started, stopping wasn’t nearly as easy.
By the time Matthew finally pulled back, Zachary was a little dazed. He lifted a hand and nudged him lightly. “The water’s getting cold.”
Only then did Matthew reluctantly let him go and return to washing his mate with the same meticulous attention as before.
A little while later, Zachary suddenly caught his wrist and drew his knees up. “I can handle this part myself.”
Matthew had no intention of giving up one of his favorite perks.
And Zachary had always been far too soft when it came to him.
By the time Matthew wrapped him up in a beast hide blanket and carried him back to the cave like a crepe,

Zachary barely had any strength left.
Then came overtime.
Every time Matthew pointed at a spot, Zachary had to lean over and leave a bite there. If the mark was to light. Matthew wasn’t satisfied. He insisted on something obvious enough to last.
The moo beast still didn’t get dinner in the end and went to sleep hungry all night. The next day, it looked at Zachary with deep resentment.
Zachary was already used to this bully–the–weak beast, so he simply ignored it. He reached over the fence to pat the cute little calf, then poured in the tender, grass Jaden had cut.
Matthew went off to do laundry again.
Zachary noticed that whenever he was in a good mood, he liked doing laundry. Especially Zachary’s clothes. which he would line up neatly, making the other clothes squeezed off to the side look a little pitiful.
After breakfast, Zachary wanted to try building a handcart.
While heading out to cut some wood and bamboo, Zachary and Matthew passed by Bruce’s cave. Donald was sweeping outside at the time. The moment he heard what they were up to, he eagerly volunteered to help.
Therians usually had it pretty rough, and since they finally had a chance to rest, Zachary didn’t want to trouble them too much. So he said, “It’s fine. We can handle it ourselves.”
Bruce had also recently realized that the medicine he made didn’t taste great, so he was thinking about improving it. Naturally, Donald became the perfect guinea pig. He not only had to drink it, but also carefully taste it and give feedback and suggestions.
Donald was already close to his limit. He quietly pointed at the smoking medicine pot and pressed his hands together, moving them up and down. “Please, please!”
“Zachary, Matthew, you’re here.” Bruce turned around while grabbing some herbs and noticed them outside the cave. He walked over with a smile.
Donald immediately dropped his hands and stood properly beside Bruce. But his eyes stayed locked on Zachary, full of urgent and sincere pleading.
Only through experience could someone truly understand it. Zachary instantly got it. He said to Bruce. “Mr. Bruce, I want to try making something new today. Could Donald come help us?”
Bruce fully supported anything related to Zachary’s inventions. Without hesitation, he nodded. “Of course,” Donald let out a quiet sigh of relief and quickly followed them.
Halfway there, Zachary couldn’t help but get curious and asked Donald, “Does Mr. Donald’s sense of taste

work a bit differently from ours?”
Just for example, Matthew and Jaden can tolerate bad–tasting food. That’s mostly because they never really had access to good meals before, and their personalities are also more enduring.
That applies to Therians in this world in general. Getting used to it just becomes normal over time. But Mr. Bruce’s medicine has already gone beyond just bad–tasting food. It feels like a completely different level. Could it be the herbs?
Donald thought about it and replied, “Bruce doesn’t really perceive harsh flavors that strongly, especially bitterness and astringency.”
He shrugged helplessly. “So ever since Sire taught him how to brew medicine, I’ve been the one drinking it most of the time.”
Even if those medicines never made it past my tongue, the taste alone was enough to make me question my will to live Still, that’s not entirely a bad thing. Besides me, no other therians can stomach them. Then he’ll always be with me.
As he thought about it, Donald suddenly cheered up again.
Zachary looked at him with a bit of sympathy and suddenly felt that both of them were kifted in their own way.
