Chapter 295 Where They First Met

Taylor shot him a furious glare, looking straight up. “Show some respect. You’re supposed to call me Alpha.”
For a moment, Yael was caught off guard almost speechless. “Hey, you…”
After barely doing any work, Taylor was already completely exhausted. He collapsed into Quincy’s arms like a drained puppet and murmured weakly, “I don’t want to be an alpha anymore.”
Quincy gently swept the damp hair off the boy’s forehead, smiling as he asked, “What made you change your mind?”
Taylor’s long lashes drooped as he looked down. “Being Alpha means so much work. It’s really tiring.
“If he tries to take my things next time, I’ll just let him have them.”
Quincy let out a soft laugh. “I’ll tell you something.”
Taylor looked up immediately. “What is it?”
Quincy tousled his hair lightly. “Your alpha once told me privately that you’re the best cub in the world.
“That’s why he would never even consider replacing you with anyone else.”
Taylor’s eyes widened with excitement. “Really?”
Quincy nodded with certainty. “Of course.”
From breakfast onward, Yael noticed something odd–Taylor kept looking at him differently, his gaze carrying an unusual softness, almost like gentle maternal affection.
It made Yael wonder if the boy was getting too absorbed in the idea of being an alpha.
Yael decided to test him. “What’s going on with you?”
Taylor picked up his stone axe without hesitation. “Nothing. I’m working.”
“Well…” Yael rubbed his chin thoughtfully, then leaned toward Quincy to whisper. “What’s up with him?
“He used to be so prickly, and now he’s suddenly this obedient and sweet?
“Is he planning something?”
Quincy nudged him lightly. “Taylor just realized how hard you work, so he decided to treat you better from now on.”
Yael blinked in surprise. “That’s… actually kind of moving.”
Quincy added casually, “He also said you’re the best alpha and that he doesn’t want to switch anymore.”
Yael felt even more emotional after hearing that. He walked over and scooped Taylor up. “Enough,

enough.
“I can’t let my cub work himself to exhaustion.
“You can go play with Jaden”
Taylor shook his head firmly. “It’s fine. I can do it slowly.
“You should go rest instead.”
“I’m your alpha, and I’m strong. Let me handle it.”
Yael looked like he might tear up. He took the stone axe from Taylor and began chopping vigorously— thud, thud, thud echoing through the space.
Quincy watched the rare, harmonious scene between father and son, his eyes warming with a deepened smile.
Outside the cave, Zachary stood by a stone basin, studying his reflection as he carefully adjusted his hair.
It hadn’t been trimmed in a while, and his bangs were starting to fall over his eyes. He ran his fingers through it, parting it neatly down the middle. With his rounded crown, his hair looked even puffier, giving him a slightly goofy, endearing charm.
His silver–gray hair dyed beautifully, and the light blue fint made it resemble a chilled sea–salt soda in summer–fresh, clean, and strikingly eye–catching.
Satisfied, Zachary smoothed it back again before starting preparations for the soft cheese curd he intended to sell at the afternoon market.
He dragged over two large basins of soaked soybeans, then bent down at the stone mill and began grinding with effortful breaths.
The work was brutal–one hand turning the handle while the other kept feeding beans in. Before he had finished even half a basin, his waist and arms were already aching badly.

Straightening up with a sigh, he glanced over and saw Jaden returning after herding the cows. An idea suddenly struck him.
That cow had become extremely tame. Once released, it never ran far, just wandered around the cave area, sometimes nudging Zachary or Jaden out of curiosity.
Every morning, it would obediently wait at the cave entrance, and if the door opened late, it would even tap at it with its head.
If left unattended, it would slip inside, roam freely like it owned the place, sniffing the stove and pressing its nose against the closed storage door.
Jaden adored it. Whenever possible, he would take it into the forest for grazing, treating it like a little companion. After returning from his training, he even brought it fruit or secretly shared his snacks.

Zachary had never expected their first pet would be a cow–especially a wild one.

At that moment, the little creature seemed to sense the soybeans and trotted over happily on its small
hooves.
Jaden followed behind like a proper young herder, a bundle of fresh grass strapped to his back for the larger cow.
Noticing Zachary’s hair, Jaden’s eyes lit up instantly. “Sire, your hair…”
“It looks good, right?” Zachary said with a hint of pride, crouching slightly so Jaden could get a better look from all angles.
Jaden stared without blinking. “It’s beautiful… like the sea melting into snowy mountains.”
Zachary blinked in surprise. “You’ve seen snowy mountains?”
Jaden nodded. “Yes. When I was very small, Alpha took me there.
“The sky was so blue, the mountains were pure white, and the clouds were huge.
“Alpha said that’s where he first met you.”
A warm, bittersweet feeling spread through Zachary’s chest. He gently ruffled the boy’s hair. “Next time, we’ll go see the snowy mountains together.”
Jaden immediately brightened. “Okay!”
“Ah–wait!”
In his distraction, the cow had almost shoved its head into the soybean basin. Zachary quickly lunged forward and grabbed its muzzle just in time.
