Chapter 31 Zachary Is Amazing
Quincy praised him with a smile, “Zachary, you’re incredibly clever.”
Zachary, slightly flustered by the compliment, brushed it aside with a small wave. “It’s nothing complicated. Once you give it a try, you’ll understand right away.”
Taylor had settled beside Jaden, casually snacking on pieces of fried pork crackling. His gaze kept drifting toward Zachary, filled with unmistakable admiration.
Around the fire, both families shared stories and laughter, the atmosphere warm and lively/Even Matthew and Jaden, who were usually quiet, occasionally added a few words to the conversation.
While they were talking, Yael suddenly noticed movement near the cave entrance out of the corner of his eye. He stood up immediately. “The chief and the shaman are here.”
Seeing Matthew and the others rise, Zachary quickly got to his feet as well.
A voice called from the entrance. “Matthew.” The chief stepped inside, scanning the area with a hint of surprise. “Quincy and Yael are here too?”
Quincy and Yael gave respectful nods. “Chief Alfred. Mr. Bruce.”
Matthew stepped forward to greet them. “Chief Alfred, Mr. Bruce, has something happened?”
Zachary looked up and saw two therian figures standing before him.
One appeared to be around forty years old, with a serious expression, though his tone remained gentle. The other was strikingly attractive-fair-skinned, with long black-violet hair, refined brows, calm eyes, and a tall nose. He carried an air of elegance and warmth.
Chief Alfred spoke first. “Harper informed me that Zachary suffered a head injury, so we came to check on him.”
Alfred was familiar with Zachary’s situation. When he first learned that Matthew had feelings for the sub- therian, he had been overjoyed, believing Matthew had finally opened his heart. He had even gone out of his way to support the two of them becoming mates.
But things had not gone as expected-Zachary’s condition, along with Harper and the others, had complicated everything.
Because of that, Alfred had chosen not to bring Harper or Wesley along today.
Each time he thought about it, a heavy sigh escaped him. Deep down, he felt he had failed Matthew’s Alpha
and his sire.
The shaman, Bruce, stepped closer and focused his calm gaze on Zachary. “Do you truly have no memory at all?”
Zachary nodded, intending to maintain the act until the end.
Bruce carefully examined his head. “Where exactly did the injury occur?”

Zachary casually reached back and touched the back of his head. “Right here.”
Bruce frowned slightly and inspected the area more closely, yet found no visible injury.
“Are you certain?”
“Yes,” Zachary replied without hesitation.
Bruce shook his head in mild confusion. “That’s unusual.”
Matthew and Jaden exchanged serious looks, both watching Bruce intently.

“I’ve seen cases like this before in our tribe,” Bruce continued, “but those therians had clearly suffered severe head trauma. In Zachary’s case, there’s no obvious damage at all.
“For now, there doesn’t seem to be anything wrong. If it’s not interfering with his daily life, it’s best to let his condition stabilize naturally over time.”
Zachary exhaled quietly in relief and quickly added, “It really doesn’t affect me. I feel completely fine.”
Yael immediately chimed in, “Exactly! The Zachary we have now is amazing!”
As soon as he spoke, the tense atmosphere in the cave eased noticeably. Everyone moved to make space so Alfred and Bruce could sit comfortably.
A rich, appetizing aroma filled the cave. Alfred had already noticed it earlier, but given their official visit and his position, he had restrained himself from mentioning it.
Bruce, however, was more direct. Smiling gently, he said, “That smells wonderful.”
Zachary, relying on instinct and social awareness, quickly served them the omelet and fried pork crackling. “Chief Alfred, Mr. Bruce, please give this a try.”
Taylor leaned forward eagerly. “It’s really good!”
“Is that so?” Bruce asked, smiling as he lightly tousled Taylor’s hair.
Taylor nodded enthusiastically.
After tasting the food, Alfred looked visibly stunned. “Zachary, what is this? It’s incredible.” For a moment, he even forgot to maintain his usual dignified composure.
Bruce smiled in approval. “Zachary, did you prepare this yourself? It’s exceptional. I’ve never had anything this good before.”
Zachary briefly explained the dish and how it was made.
After listening, Bruce asked, “May I have another serving?”
Zachary smiled warmly. “Of course.”
Alfred seemed particularly impressed with the grilled mushrooms. Learning that they could be stored easily, he paused before making a request. “Zachary, during the next gathering expedition, would you be willing to guide the tribe in collecting edible mushrooms and wild onions? That way, when the cold season

arrives, we’ll have enough food stored.
“If you need anything, just let me know. I’ll provide whatever I can. And we’ll compensate you with a portion of what is collected.”
Zachary nodded right away. “Sure, Chief Alfred.”
He silently thought to himself that this was what true leadership looked like-fair exchange and responsibility, not empty words disguised as favors like some modern bosses.
Matthew escorted the two out of the cave. Once outside, he lowered his head respectfully. “Mr. Bruce.”
Bruce paused. “Matthew, what’s on your mind?”
Matthew asked, “Can a sub-therian’s personality really change so much after a head injury?”
Bruce replied calmly, “It’s possible. If he has no memory of his past, then everything around him would feel entirely new.
“Zachary is quite different now. He seems to understand things that even we don’t.”
Matthew hesitated, his expression conflicted. “Is it possible that he might regain his lost memories?”
Bruce nodded. “That is certainly within the realm of possibility.”
Matthew remained troubled.
Bruce gently placed a hand on his shoulder. “Like Zachary said, he’s doing well now. That’s what matters.
“Tell me what do you think of him as he is now?”
–
After a brief pause, Matthew answered, “He’s good.”
Bruce smiled faintly. “Perhaps the Beast God is helping you.
“Go on back.”
Matthew lingered for a moment longer before slowly turning away.
