Chapter 329 One Kiss Is All It Takes

Zachary went downstairs to throw out the trash, but a dark shape in the bushes startled him. He quickly turned on his phone flashlight and asked in a low voice, “Matthew?”
The black panther let out a whimper.
Zachary blinked in surprise. “How did you get out?”
Matthew rubbed his head against his leg, his warm, wet tongue licking insistently at him.
Zachary said, “Turn human first.”
The black panther shook his head.
Zachary didn’t dare dawdle. Acting furtively, he hurriedly brought the panther back home. Only after closing the door did he finally let out a breath of relief.
He brought out paper and ink. The panther dipped its paw in the ink and wrote on the paper, “I can’t change back.”
Zachary froze. “What?”
The panther lowered his eyes, ears pressed flat against his head.
Zachary quickly comforted him, “It’s okay, it’s okay. Maybe you’ll be fine in a couple of days. The floor’s cold. Come up first.”
Matthew curled up on the couch, taking up almost the entire space.
Zachary bent down and rubbed his head. “Are you hungry?”
Matthew nodded pitifully. Those people had been feeding him raw meat the whole time, and he couldn‘ stomach it.
Zachary leaned closer and said softly, “I’ll cook. It’ll be quick.”
Matthew lifted his head and kissed Zachary on the lips.
The next second, the huge black panther lying there suddenly turned back into a human,
Zachary was stunned, the corner of his mouth twitching.
Was this a classic case of the princess and the frog? One kiss, and he transformed? Was Matthew an actual prince?
But before he could think any further, the sound of police sirens rang out downstairs.
Zachary’s heart jumped. Panic flooded his mind as he grabbed Matthew’s hand and ran. “Go! Hurry!”

In the chaos, when they came back to their senses, they were once again in the cave from before.
Both Zachary and Matthew stood there, panting, stunned for a long moment.
After washing the clothes, Matthew hung them one by one on the wooden rack outside the cave. Still damp with moisture, he crouched by the bedside, leaned in, and kissed Zachary several times, leaving red marks on his soft cheeks.
Half–asleep, Zachary waved him off vaguely before quickly sinking back into deep sleep.
Matthew headed to the center of the tribe.
Sean and his old friends had drunk plenty of drunken fruit juice. As they reminisced about the past, their eyes turned red. His rough hands rubbed his face hard before he hugged his head and burst into loud sobs.
The cubs peeked over curiously. Yael waved them away, tilting his head as he watched from side to side- only to be shoved aside by his Alpha.
Yael, couldn’t help commenting, “That’s some loud crying.”
Matthew walked over, and together they pulled them apart. “It’s time to go home.”
Sean staggered against Matthew, rubbing his head. “You’ve grown so big.”
Yael teased, “Keep rubbing, and you’ll spark a fire.”
Matthew removed his Alpha’s hand.
Sean then grabbed his face. “You’re not as chubby as before.”
Matthew held both his hands down, but Sean bumped his head repeatedly against him. “My dear cub…”
Yael burst out laughing and mimicked him, “My dear cub…”
Matthew shot him a glance, then half–carried, half–supported Sean forward. As he passed Yael, he lifted his leg and kicked him.
[
“Hey!” Yael tried to retaliate but was immediately caught in a chokehold by his Alpha, nearly meeting an early demise.
Lanny saw this and stepped forward. “I’ll take him.”
Matthew said, “He’s heavy.”
Lanny looked at the swaying Sean and gently patted him. “Stop moving.”
Sean blinked drowsily. When he saw his mate, he immediately behaved, grinning foolishly and opening his arms to lean over.
Matthew quickly pulled him back. With that kind of build, both of them would get knocked over.
Taylor had truly been frightened. A couple of days ago, he suddenly started crying in his sleep, his little

face flushed red. The trauma hit him even harder than Jaden, the actual victim. Ever since they found Jaden, Taylor refused to leave his side, clinging to him no matter what.
At night, he even hugged his clothes and went straight to Matthew’s home. He knocked politely, saying he was afraid Jaden might be scared and wanted to stay with him.
When Zachary woke again, it was already the next evening. Fully rested, he stretched and walked out to see Matthew by the stove.
Hearing the movement, Matthew turned. “You’re awake?”
Zachary crouched beside him. “What are you cooking?”
“Medicine from the shaman for Jaden’s throat.” Matthew lifted another lid. “The food’s still warm. Have something to eat.”
It was a clear, rich stew of quacking beast, both legs included, filling most of the bowl.
Zachary was indeed hungry. After washing up, he slowly ate, finishing one bowl and half the soup.
Jaden, Taylor, and Little Baldy were at the stream using woven baskets to catch fish. The little moo beasts grazed by the water. When they collected the baskets, the three cubs were soaked from head to toe, carrying wriggling fish all the way home.
Matthew first served a bowl of medicinal soup, then opened another clay pot and filled another bowl.
Zachary looked puzzled.
Matthew pushed it toward him. “You drink too. The shaman said it’s good for your body.”
Bruce’s medical skills were excellent–Zachary had no doubt about that. And since it was already made, it couldn’t be wasted. So he picked up the bowl, pinched his nose, and downed it in one go.
