About thirty minutes later, they reached the zoo entrance. Zachary purchased two tickets through his phone and immediately guided Jaden toward the black panther area without stopping.

On the way, they passed enclosures filled with various animals. Each time Jaden spotted a large predator, his body instinctively stiffened and he edged closer to Zachary.

Zachary gently patted his head. “It’s fine. No need to be afraid. They can’t escape.”

Jaden looked up at him again. “Is Alpha really here?”

The weather was hot, and the black panthers were scattered across their enclosure, lying lazily in whatever shade they could find.

A nearby visitor glanced at the signboard and murmured in confusion, “There’s no black panther called Matthew here.”

Trying to draw attention, Zachary bought some raw meat and shook it toward the feeding hatch. “Hey! Come on out and eat!”

Jaden tugged his sleeve, his expression serious. “Sire, Alpha isn’t here.”

Not finding Matthew left Zachary unusually quiet on the way back. Sensing it, Jaden kept deliberately asking questions, trying to pull him out of his thoughts.

At the supermarket, Zachary stocked up on seafood, meats, fruits, and vegetables. He also took Jaden through the snack and toy sections, which overwhelmed the boy completely–there was too much to choose from, and he ended up unable to decide on anything.

They left with an excessive number of shopping bags. Fortunately, Jaden’s strength made the trip home manageable.

Once they were back, Zachary briefly considered posting a missing–person notice online. But the moment he unlocked his phone, a video caught his attention instead.
