My Panther Mate & Our Little Cub novel Chapter 49

Chapter 49 Fondue Night

Both Matthew and Yael thought the game sounded rather interesting, so they crouched beside the others to watch.

Five-in-a-row was essentially a very basic and simple board game. Taylor, eager to try the game, quickly dragged Jaden into playing a round together.

With Zachary’s guidance, Tayor easily won the first round. The cub was so delighted that he jumped around in excitement.

But Jaden was an intelligent cub. It only took two rounds for him to grasp the rules, and like a duck to water he quickly began winning one game after another.

After watching Jaden dominate the game, Yael grew competitive and rubbed his hands combatively. He copied Zachary’s movements and drew another board on the ground, keen to challenge Matthew.

Just like that, everyone became completely absorbed in the game.

Quincy and Zachary weren’t quite as “obsessed” as the others. After playing for a while, they started chatting. Zachary jumped on the opportunity to ask about the situation in the tribe.

With nothing better to do, Quincy stared at the unique clothes Zachary wore for a moment. Then, he asked if Zachary could teach him how to make them.

Jaden and Zachary had become a striking sight in the tribe ever since they started wearing the clothes they made themselves.

The tailoring, texture, and style were incredibly distinctive. Most importantly, they were beautiful, practical, and comfortable-far better than what everyone else in the tribe wore.

Zachary readily agreed to the request. Taking out an unfinished piece, he immediately started demonstrating the methods.

Matthew kept stealing glances at the silvery-grey beast-hide outfit, prompting Yael to complain that he wasn’t taking the game seriously and that his victory didn’t count.

Zachary first sketched a rough design on the ground, then used the garment on his lap as an example. He even explained the concept of color-matching in the process.

At the same time, he shared various decorative ideas, such as having fluffy pom-poms on the collars, hats with different animal ears, and braided beast-hide cords to replace buttons…

Quincy listened intently, his admiration for Zachary reaching a whole new level.

Since Yael had brought meat, his real aim was, naturally, to join them for a meal today. The mushroom, wild greens, and sliced meat stew that Matthew mentioned earlier had been on his mind all afternoon.

Zachary teasingly said, “Can you slice the meat?”

Yael instantly agreed, patting his chest confidently. “No problem!”

Zachary smiled and promptly handed over the preparation work for the mushroom, wild greens, and sliced

meat stew to Yael.

As for himself, he prepared another dish.

He scooped out a large chunk of the beef tallow he’d rendered earlier and dropped it into the por Then, he stir-fried some wild onions, chili peppers, and ginger. Next, he added the beef ribs and boiled them over high heat.

Afterward, he sliced a variety of meats, including grunt-beast meat, baa beast meat, and moo beast meat He even added a touch of ceremony by neatly arranging the thin slices of meat on leaves, as though he were preparing a proper platter.

Meanwhile, Quincy and the two cubs helped wash some wild greens and mushrooms.

Zachary originally wanted to prepare some organ meat, too. But with the pouring rain, it was hard to clean and wash the organ meat outside. And doing it inside would cause the cave to stink, so he decided to save that for next time. What they already had today was more than enough anyway.

The red, oily broth bubbled away in the pot, releasing waves of rich, fragrant steam.

Taylor and Yael inhaled deeply. “Those bones smell so good!”

After arranging the wild greens, mushrooms, and meats around the pot, Zachary called the others over to sit around the fire.

“Are we eating raw meat?” Quincy asked.

“No. We’re doing it a different way today.” Zachary removed some firewood out from the flames to reduce the heat, allowing the stone pot to slowly simmer gently on low heat.

The others watched him curiously.

“This is called fondue,” he explained, adding some moo beast meat to the broth. Since the meat was sliced thinly, they cooked in roughly ten seconds. He swiftly picked them out of the broth again and gave each person a few pieces. “Try it.”

The others couldn’t wait to try the food. They immediately stuffed the meat into their mouths.

The rich aroma of beef tallow mixed with the sharp kick of chili pepper burst on their tongues. The meat was tender and soaked with broth. Each bite felt like an explosion of flavor in their mouths!

Taylor practically drooled, his eyes fixed greedily on the meat inside the pot. “Delicious!”

“This is incredible, Zachary!” Yael praised.

Even Matthew and Jaden were won over by the unique method of eating. Following Zachary’s lead, they quickly added other ingredients into the pot.

“I want mushrooms!”

“The wild greens are amazing!”

“Slurp… More grunt-beast meat!”

The cave was originally a bit chilly, but it soon filled with a cozy and spicy warmth

forever!”

Likewise, Taylor clung to Zachary’s leg. “Zachary, your food is the best in the whole world!”

Quincy, feeling slightly speechless by the shameless behavior of both his mate and cub, turned to Zachery. “If you ever need work done, just make them do it!”

“Deal!” Zachary laughed.

Washing dishes had become much easier since the stove had been rebuilt.

Zachary had asked Matthew to carve out a drainage basin-a neat square built against the stone walls of the cave-with a hole at the bottom that connected to the outside. Thanks to those features, the wastewater from washing the dishes would flow out directly without soaking the surrounding area.

When the other members of the tribe realized how useful it was, they hurriedly went home and made one for themselves, too.

In this way, they could easily wash anything inside their caves-even if it was raining outside.

Zachary finished sewing the final cuff on the beast-hide outfit, then went back to his bedroom to retrieve two other finished pieces. He handed the three outfits to Matthew.
