Transmigrated to Raise Panther Cubs

Chapter 95 His Little Scheme

They were grateful to Zachary for it and never acted as if they deserved it. Even after repaying him with work and goods, they still felt a bit embarrassed.

Having spent so long in a world driven by interests, Zachary hadn’t felt this kind of simple, genuine human connection in a long time..

After seeing everyone off, the outside fell quiet again. Matthew lit the fire in the cave, and the dark spacewas quickly filled with flickering light.

Because they had eaten dinner early, Zachary didn’t feel sleepy at all. Since the fire was already going, He. figured he might as well use it and set a pot over it, making a batch of honeyandberry candy.

After it cooled and set, he poured it out and cut it into small bitesized pieces.

There were grape, blueberry, and other berry flavors. They were small, pretty, and easy to eat.

Jaden tried some. It was sweet and tangy, really good.

Matthew sat by the fire, twisting the beast sinew rope. Zachary picked one up, walked over, and said, Open up.

He did as he was told and opened his mouth.

Zachary popped the candy into his mouth, blinked, and smiled. Is it good?

Matthew nodded. It’s good. Everything you make is good.

His expression was so serious it almost looked like a judge in court.

Zachary felt like something about Matthew had changed recently, but he couldn’t quite put his finger on what it was.

Zachary thought it was a very good sign. It meant their relationship was getting closer and more relaxed, which was good for the longterm stability of their little home.

After washing up, it was time for bed.

Matthew watched as Zachary led Jaden into their cave. He alone by the fire, looking a little down.

Once the door closed, even his only chance to watch them was gone.

Tonight I’m definitely stealing Zachary. No. I’m bringing him back to my cave. I haven’t slept with him for a whole day. I can’t stand it.

He bundled up the beast’s sinew rope he had made and quietly edged closer to the entrance of Zachary and Jaden’s cave, constantly listening for any sound inside.

His beast ears popped out. The hearing boost wasn’t much, but it gave him

some

psychological comfort.

Finished

He heard the sound of storytelling again. This time, it seemed to be about the black bear tribe.

He pinched his thigh hard.

No matter what, I can’t fall asleep today.

As he kept inching forward, the stool he was sitting on was almost inside Zachary and Jaden’s cave.

He leaned against the stone wall, elbows on his knees, fingers constantly spinning the bone knife. His ears perked.

After a while, Zachary’s voice from inside the cave gradually grew quieter.

Matthew leaned forward, and his face almost pressed against the door. He tucked the bone knife back at his waist, fully on alert and ready to make his move.

A moment later, the cave went silent, then footsteps came from inside, getting closer.

They were light, a soft shuffling sound, like beasthide shoes brushing against stone.

Matthew hadn’t even reacted before the door creaked open.

Zachary stood there looking alert and put together, wearing his beasthide cloak.

The fire in the cave was still burning, so it wasn’t too dim. Zachary jumped at the sight of him sitting right by the entrance and jolted hard enough that he almost bumped into the doorframe behind him.

He nearly lost his soul on the spot.

Matthew flinched, too. His breath caught for half a beat. He quickly tucked the beast’s ears back down on his head.

Matthew?Zachary asked, clutching his pounding chest. What are you doing here?

Matthew averted his eyes, clearly awkward but keeping his tone steady. The fire was too strong.

Huh?Zachary didn’t get it.

It gets too hot sitting close to it,Matthew said after a pause. It’s cooler over here, farther from the fire.”

It was a pretty flimsy excuse.

But maybe Matthew just came across as too serious in Zachary’s eyes, because he didn’t think much of it and just nodded. Oh. Then pull some of the firewood ou

of the fire. Save it for tomorrow.

Okay.” Matthew stood up straight, posture rigid.

Zachary kept walking out.

Matthew followed beside him.

Where are you going?

Zachary gave an embarrassed little

mile. I drank too much water.

Before they realized it, Matthew had also walked all the way to the cave entrance with him.

Are you coming too?Zachary asked.

Matthew nodded, and they walked side by side toward the twistgrass area.

Finiszed

There was a small, fenced enclosure, so the space inside wasn’t very big. Matthew politely let Zachary go in first.

The soft rustling sounds came from inside. Suddenly, a few images flashed through Matthew’s mind.

Looks good, feels good too.

Zachary came out and saw Matthew standing there, head lowered, lost in thought.

You’re not going in?he asked.

I am.Matthew snapped out of it and looked up. When his eyes met Zachary’s face in the moonlight, he actually felt a little embarrassed.

Zachary waited outside, and it felt like only a few seconds before Matthew came back out.

That fast?

He couldn’t help but wonder.

It shouldn’t be. I’ve seen Matthew’sthat part. It was huge and kind of impressive. There’s no way he could be done this quickly.

Back in the cave, he looked at Matthew with concern. You’re not sleeping yet?
