Chapter 505 Aftermath and Questions
That expression–even if his own precious daughter had been stolen away by some lowlife, he probably wouldn’t have looked half as pissed off.
Blaine personally tended to Chloe’s scrapes and scratches. None of them were serious, just minor abrasions, barely worth mentioning.
As he dabbed antiseptic on her wounds, Blaine suddenly asked out of nowhere, “So, Chloe. When are you planning on taking off?”
The question caught Chloe off guard. She looked up at Blaine’s serious face and frowned slightly.
He knew a thing or two about her history with Silverash–probably more than anyone else around her- but only up to a point.
What Blaine understood was that Chloe had some complicated, messy baggage with that organization, and that Silverash kept causing problems for her. What that trouble actually entailed, he didn’t know.
The only thing he was sure of was that when that trouble finally caught up with her, Chloe would choose to leave.
To leave everyone behind.
That was all Blaine knew.
Out of the blue, he’d brought it up. Chloe hadn’t expected him to ask so directly. She just replied calmly. “Why are you asking this all of a sudden?”
“Don’t think you’ve been so slick about it that I haven’t noticed. From the moment you started transferring your assets to Melinda, I knew you were planning to ditch us, weren’t you?”
Hearing Blaine’s accusation, Chloe was quiet for a moment, then suddenly smiled.
“Everyone’s got their own battles to fight eventually. My problems… I have to handle them myself.”
“Chloe, you can talk to us about anything. You don’t have to carry it all alone. Besides, you’ve got… someone now.” Blaine got worked up and suddenly blanked on the name of the man lying in the hospital bed.
“This is my own business.” Chloe’s expression turned serious.
Blaine wanted to argue, but seeing her like that, he finally let it go.
“Chloe, is there really no other way?” Blaine tried one more time, but this time he got no response at all.
After a moment of silence, Blaine stood up, straightened his white coat, and said seriously, “Alright, let’s go. He’s probably out by now. You can go see him. That guy really went all out for you. If that blast had been any bigger, with all that shrapnel flying, he’d be dead for sure.”

Hearing that, Chloe gave a faint smile. She stood up gracefully and left first.

Outside the emergency room, when Eugene was wheeled out, the first thing he saw was Chloe standing there calmly.
Their eyes met, and Eugene suddenly smiled.
Watching from the sidelines, Oralia could only clench her jaw.
Jesus Christ.
He’s banged up this bad and still smiling? Is this guy a masochist?
But one thing Oralia was certain of: this tough guy’s feelings for Chloe were even more intense now. Before, he was obvious about it; now, he was practically shameless.
Even the old legends about knights slaying dragons for their princesses had nothing on this.
Oralia grinned mischievously. She couldn’t wait to see the day this warrior married Chloe. It’d make one hell of a story.
Chloe accompanied Eugene back to his room. Everyone else lingered at the doorway for a moment, then found various excuses to bail.
Even Robert made up some story about needing Zachary’s help with something and took off first.
Soon, the once crowded room fell quiet, leaving only Eugene and Chloe inside.
Eugene looked at her without saying a word.
