That was the first time she’d ever smiled at him.

Later, he brought her to Silverash, trained her personally in all kinds of skills, and poured money into making sure she learned everything-martial arts, strategy, languages, you name it. After she’d mastered it all, they didn’t see each other for five years. When they finally met again, she smiled at him once more.
That was also when he officially made her his right hand. The one who would become Silverash’s most feared operative: Clo.
As a member of Silverash, she was ruthless. Cold. Like an emotionless machine carrying out orders.
She was perfect-the best thing he’d ever shaped with his own hands. He was proud of her. And before he realized it, all his attention had zeroed in on her.
By the time he understood that he wanted her for himself, that he wanted to see her smile at him every single day, it hit him-to her, he was probably just the guy who gave orders. And she was just a cold-blooded weapon doing her job.
Now, watching Chloe smile at him like this, for one fleeting moment, Vincent felt like he’d been transported back to those warm, sunlit days.
Back to when Chloe had woken up and thanked him with that same smile.
“If you want it, I’d hand it over gladly,” Vincent said lightly. “You know that. Anything you want -I can give it to you.”
“I-”
“Anything except leaving my sight,” Vincent cut in before she could finish. “Anything else, it’s yours.”
Chloe swallowed the words that had been sitting on her tongue.
“Then I’m not interested. Honestly, I’d probably be happy if Silverash went up in flames someday.” She shrugged, her tone almost bored.
At the mention of Silverash going down, the driver and the bodyguard in the front exchanged a quick glance. Neither of them dared to make a sound. They barely even breathed too loud, terrified of setting off the man in the back.
They both knew: if anyone else had said something like that in front of their boss, they’d already be dead.

Vincent’s eyes went cold at her words. He pressed a button, and a partition slid up, sealing off the front seats from the back.
Now it was just the two of them.
“Clo-Clo, you’re trying to provoke me on purpose. But you know that never ends well. So why do you keep pushing?” He leaned closer, shrinking the space between them.
“You promised you’d come back when the time was up. So why didn’t you? You made me wait so long-I was worried.” He moved even closer. “It really upset me, you know.”
“Marrying Arthur, having a kid… I let all of that slide. You could’ve even brought the child along. Silverash would’ve welcomed him. Raised him right. Made him into whatever you wanted.” His eyes darkened. “But… you went and gave your heart to someone else. That one actually hurt.”
Hearing that, Chloe’s gaze dropped, and her hands clenched tight in her lap.
“That guy Eugene-do you actually care about him that much? It’s the first time I’ve ever seen you take an interest in a man. Could it be… you’ve fallen for him?” Vincent’s lips were almost brushing her ear now. They were so close he could easily pull her into his arms-and she could just as easily turn the tables and put him in a hold.
Chloe ignored the question completely. She just stared out the window, calm and indifferent. Silence.
Then Vincent’s voice sharpened. “Clo-Clo. I’m ordering you to answer me.”
Chloe finally spoke, her voice lazy, “Who I love is my business. None of yours. And I have a name-it’s Chloe. Not Clo-Clo.”
She snapped back at him, but Vincent just laughed.
The sound filled the car, echoing like some kind of warning. Chloe found it disgusting.
He didn’t ask anything else. Didn’t say another word. Just turned and looked out his own window. A long moment passed before he spoke again, his voice soft.
“My dear Chloe. I’ve prepared something special for you. I think you’re going to really like it.”
Chloe didn’t even flinch.
The car kept driving until they left the city behind and reached the waterfront. There, they abandoned the car and boarded a boat instead.

On the deck, with the sea breeze cutting across the water, Chloe watched the city shrink into the distance. Eventually, she just looked away.
Vincent leaned lazily against the railing, watching her from a few feet away. “Enjoy the breeze while you can,” he said evenly. “You’ll see the gift I prepared for you soon enough.”
Chloe kept ignoring him.
