Chapter 531 Rush to the Hospital
“Got it. On it.” Landon stepped outside, already pulling out his phone.

Hogan took Rhea’s hand and gently guided Robert closer, lowering his voice to steady them both. “Don’t be scared. Chloe’s gonna be fine. Let’s head to the hospital and see her.”
Things had just started falling into place between that girl and his son–there was no way she’d been in a serious accident. She couldn’t be badly hurt. If something happened to her, he knew their son would lose it completely.
Once a Rosewood man set his mind on someone, not even the gods could tear him away.
That girl was tough. Strong. A car crash wasn’t going to break her.
Eugene had left the restaurant the second he got the news, pushing his car to the limit all the way to the hospital. He’d already gotten in touch with the medical team, and by the time he reached the emergency ward, they were waiting outside the operating room.
“Mr. Rosewood? Could you confirm your relationship to Ms. Lewis?” A doctor approached with a clipboard, holding out the consent forms.
Eugene paused for just a second, then met the doctor’s eyes. “I’m her husband.”
He signed without even glancing at the fine print, then moved toward the doors. “I need to go in.”.
“Sorry, sir. The surgery’s still underway–you can’t go in yet. Ms. Lewis is in serious condition. The vehicle lost control and hit a guardrail. It’s pretty badly damaged, and she sustained significant injuries. Nothing life–threatening, fortunately, but… there are cuts and lacerations on her face and body. The team is working on her now.” The doctor added, “We’re doing everything we can for her.”
The words “nothing life–threatening” loosened something tight in Eugene’s chest.
The surgery continued. The doctor gave a few more instructions before heading back in. Before leaving, a staff member mentioned that Chloe’s belongings had been brought in and could be picked up by family.
The car had been towed to an impound lot. Her personal items–her bag, her phone–had been recovered and were at the hospital. If he wanted them, he could stop by the service desk.
Eugene stood motionless, his eyes fixed on the operating room doors. His jaw was tight.
A car accident.
It didn’t fit. He knew how good she was behind the wheel. He’d seen her drive, What the hell had happened?
He couldn’t shake the thought–if he’d gone with her to pick up those supplies, none of this would’ve happened.
“Eugene? How is she?”
Rhea came around the corner, Robert’s hand in hers. She spotted Eugene standing there, still staring at the

doors. The red light above them glowed. Surgery in progress. Worry carved lines into both their faces.
“It was bad. She’s still in there.” His voice came out rough, like the words had to be dragged out of him.
Rhea swayed slightly. Hogan steadied her without a word.
“She’s in surgery,” Hogan said quietly, glancing at Eugene. “Standing here wound up won’t help her. Let’s sit. Wait.”
Eugene blinked, the words pulling him back. Hogan was right. There was nothing to do now but wait. None of them knew what was happening behind those doors.
All they had was time.
