Chapter 600 An Old Friend Calls
So, what’s your plan now? She’s with the Bingham family, and Cosmos Group doesn’t have any ties with them yet. If you go straight to her, she might not even give you the time of day.”
“Maybe we should find out more before making a move” Landon suggested cautiously, instinctively leaning back in his seat. Being around this guy always made the air feel icy.
“When it comes to Chloe and me, I don’t need to overthink things.” Eugene’s voice dropped into a cool, commanding tone. “If she’s going to act like nothing ever happened between us, then I’ll make sure we settle things properly–starting with why she walked out on me.”
Landon lifted a brow at that. Well, well. Looked like someone was mad enough to turn everything upside down.
The car continued toward Riverville Prime Residence. Just then, Eugene’s phone rang.
A sudden phone ring cut through the air, and Landon instinctively glanced over to where Eugene had set his phone down. He knew right away that this ring was different–like, it wasn’t the usual one, which meant someone special was on the other end of the line.
Eugene always set unique ringtones for specific people; for instance, Chloe had her own one–of–a–kind ringtone, and the second it started playing, he’d know it was her calling, no question about it.
But this one was sharper, unfamiliar. In all his years working for Eugene, Landon had never heard it before.
Eugene glanced at the screen but didn’t pick up. He didn’t even move to reach for it.
The call eventually went to voicemail. Moments later, it rang again—same tone, same caller.
Again, Eugene ignored it.
It rang three times in a row, each one ending on its own. Landon wondered who’d be bold enough to keep trying like that. If someone wasn’t answering, they probably didn’t want to talk. Pushing that hard took
some nerve.
Finally, on the fourth try, Eugene moved. He picked up the phone, checked the number, and put it on speaker.
“Eric, darling, you finally decided to answer. I thought I’d have to call a hundred more times before you’d pick up.” It was a man’s voice, smooth and teasing with a hint of a whine.
Hold on–that voice…
Landon stiffened. He recognized it. It was Nance–the man of the hour at tonight’s event.
Just a little while ago, Landon had joked about whether Eugene was jealous of him. And now… Since when did Eugene know Nance? Since when did they have each other’s numbers?
