Chapter 314: Then, Find Him.

Meanwhile, Gustav boarded a private plane bound for the mainland.

He sat in one of the seats with a man across from him, the rest of the cabin empty. They had confiscated Gustav’s phone and anything else he might have used as a weapon.

"You seem to be enjoying that a little too much," Gustav remarked, watching the middle-aged man work through a high-grade steak.

The man glanced up and met his gaze, still chewing.

"You should try it," he said. "It’s good."

Gustav’s expression didn’t change. "What did you do to Lukas, Jony?"

Jony set down his fork and wiped his mouth with a cloth, then reached for his wine glass.

"We rescued him," he said plainly, then drained the glass as though it were water. "My men went to his place to collect him and found him already under attack. So we pulled him out."

He set the glass down.

"He took a hit in the process — nothing fatal. He’s already being transported to the mainland. He’ll be fine."

Gustav nodded.

Not out of doubt. If anything, the opposite. Before Jony’s people had arrived, Gustav himself had nearly been attacked. It just so happened that Jony had shown up first and dealt with it.

"You mentioned the Madam would be on the mainland as well," Gustav said, shifting the subject. "I find myself wondering what the High Chamber wants from her."

Jony smiled.

"Madam?" He let out an amused sound. "You call her that now? Interesting, coming from the Dragon’s stubborn right hand. I didn’t expect you to acknowledge someone like her. Surely, that woman’s skilled. She managed to seduce the Black Dragon, and now, even the Black Dragon’s right hand."

Gustav’s eyes glinted. "If she were standing in front of you, wouldn’t you call her the same?" He tilted his head. "Or rather, wouldn’t the High Chamber address her as the Madam of Dominion regardless?"

The smile on Jony’s face dimmed.

"At this point, it doesn’t matter to me, to you, or to the High Chamber," Gustav continued, settling back in his seat. "Whether she’s fit to hold the title depends entirely on how much you stand to gain from it. Isn’t that the case?"

He tilted his head. "If even the High Chamber is willing to bow to an empty title in order to exploit it, why can’t I?"

A smirk touched his lips.

"Isn’t it interesting that the High Chamber still needs the legitimacy of the Madam of Dominion to take control of everything?" His eyes narrowed. "Not quite as amusing when you look at it that way, is it, Jony?"

Gustav chuckled and leaned forward over the table, lowering his head until he was looking Jony directly in the eye.

"There’s something else that puzzles me, though." His voice dropped. "You and the High Chamber are behaving as though my master is already dead."

His expression darkened. "If he wakes up — I wonder how the High Chamber plans to explain all of this."

"Ah." Gustav nodded slowly. "You’ll say you were only trying to protect the Madam from outside threats."

He chuckled and shook his head. "Politics truly isn’t for me."
