"Because Tommy is going to die."
Julio frowned, his eyes narrowing dangerously as he stared at Liza, wondering if he had heard her correctly.
"Where are you going with this, Madam?" he asked, his tone dropping. "I don’t like it."
Before Liza could answer, her phone rang.
She took it out, glanced at the screen, and answered.
She listened quietly to what Lucian had to say before whispering, "Okay."
After ending the call, she placed the phone on the table between them.
"You heard me right," she said. "Tommy... is going to die."
She studied the shadow that settled over Julio’s expression.
"If I want my husband to live, then he has to, Julio," she said before taking a slow breath. "I understand why you’re suspicious of Dominion. But you and I both know Tommy better than anyone."
"Tommy may have retired, but there has always been a reason behind everything he does. He’s not someone who trusts people easily, and even when he does, he never lets his guard down," Liza continued. "I may not know the details of Dominion’s alliance with the Di Carpios, but I know my husband."
She swallowed the lump in her throat.
"That is why I chose to trust Dominion."
Her voice remained steady.
"Julio, what happened in the past is already over. I lost our child too—not just Tommy. Unless Dominion gives me a reason to believe they’re part of this, I’ll follow what my heart tells me."
"And right now... this is what I want."
Every word carried conviction.
Not once did she stutter.
Not once did she hesitate.
"My husband will remain under Dominion’s protection," she declared. "And if you choose not to honor my wishes, then remember this."
Her expression sharpened.
"At the end of the day, I am Tommy’s wife. Before anything else, I am still the lady of his family." She held his gaze. "You are not to lay a finger on Dominion. Unless proven otherwise, I trust them with Tommy’s life."
Silence settled between them.
Liza could tell Julio wasn’t pleased with her decision.
The way he looked at her... it was as though he wanted to strangle her.
Then again, Julio had never liked her.
To him, Liza had always been Tommy’s greatest weakness.
Because of her, Tommy had turned his back on their family.
But despite everything...
"How is he going to die?" Julio finally asked, his expression unchanged.
A faint smile appeared on Liza’s face.
"Lucian believes whoever attacked Tommy will come back to finish the job. Even if he’s wrong, he still wants to announce Tommy’s death," she explained. "That way, the enemy will have no reason to return, and Tommy can recover in peace."
Julio listened quietly, nodding to himself.
"Not a bad plan," he admitted. "What about the people who attacked him? Has Dominion discovered who was behind it?"
"Unfortunately, no." She shook her head. "They’re still trying to track—"
"It was Marshal Di Carpio." Julio leaned forward, resting an arm on the table.
"Madam, no one else would do this except that loser. That motherfucker is still alive only because my boss spared him."
He shook his head, his eyes widening.
"And that little man knows that as long as Tommy is alive, his own pathetic life is hanging by a thread." A cruel smile tugged at his lips.
"But what he doesn’t realize... If Tommy dies, I’ll personally take his head."
Just as Julio had said, as long as Tommy lived, Marshal remained under his mercy.
But if Tommy died...
Everyone on Tommy’s side would tear Marshal apart.
